  • Hard News: So long, and thanks for all…, in reply to Raymond A Francis,

As Lucy mentioned, and others suggested,he does explain that he was referring to President Grover Cleveland but also suggested by others is that his explanation isn't really good enough. Even hypocritical.
I'm not suggesting rural people wouldn't know the difference just that I can imagine people I've encountered North who could repeat all sorts of rubbish.Hell,I hear people still sayin' "well she sometimes deserved it...." when referring to knowledge of domestic violent situations. That's my point. The provinces are quite different to the main cities.

I And that’s where the problem lies.

….For us in the main cities, but not so for those in the provinces. Much like we know Nactional enjoys most of the Farming communities all around the Country and Winston has picked up the disillusioned Nationalistic voter, who just want security for their families over migrants (so there in itself lies Winstons angle). Happily here at PAS we try to see a bigger picture but we are not the majority. Hell. Up North we are even lumbered with Wayne Brown as Mayor and Sabin in Government who believes all teenage girls just want to get pregnant and bludge the dpb. Not for long I hope.

FWIW, I don't believe that each person's ignorance is something to close the book on them. I just long for the day when knowledge once again can reign supreme and media soundbites are not given any importance in the grand picture. I expect we are all lacking somewhere. Some I guess wear those on their sleeve. I see that often in Politics.Question Time shows this regularly.

If that were the case, he wouldn’t have used the word “geldings”

Have you been to Kaitaia lately? I am still getting used to, in and around there, just where the locals get their( lack of) information and very outdated opinions. I can completely hear some of the locals calling women geldings but do wonder why Jones would choose to use it himself.I am actually amazed at the level of ignorance I have discovered. I have also tried to quell misinformation only to be told "politics is bullshit" (this coming from prominent in the area business people). Sad but true in the provinces. Yes, Jones didn't help himself there .Still I think throwing his hat in can possibly get some interested in a shift to vote for Labour's "bloke" much the same as O'Connor enjoys.

Re Steiner and expensive schools: The Steiner schools up north are expensive. The Christchurch (integrated) school is $37 a week for two over-fives.

    Shit!

  • Hard News: So long, and thanks for all…, in reply to Hebe,

My kids bloom in an integrated school (Steiner), whereas I know others who find their feet in an orthodox state high school or expensive private schools.

I know others that have flourished at Steiner but I'd still add it to the expensive schools, Shame it cannot be funded like a public school.
I do agree choice isn't "loony" and thoroughly support that too.I Suspect a lot of difficulty for the Greens to gain widespread support is because there a many people trying to make ends meet and although possibly ignorant, still cant see the wood for the trees. That's why I'd love the Greens to work with Labour and both parties concentrate on their strong parts.

Ran over this in the driveway a couple of days ago. It came from a plant I found on the side of the road on Waiheke. It’s now in my garden.
I have another just showing itself in the garden not run over.

I'd like everyone to get along to form the next Government.. Unfortunately Nactional have never done that for me so the opposition all together must make good Government in my eyes and must please a lot of people somehow. There's bits of the Greens (hat tip Bart) that aren't the be all for me (hat tip Chris's). There's bits that NZF do too but I've met Peters and his lady and I think they are Nationalistic but not prejudice. There' lots I don't love about NZF .I do feel their MP's really love this country and would put our best interests first. Hone, he cares in his way, so I'd like the opposition to unite to save us from the current mob in the best interest of our health and well being. Let's face it, together all the opposition Parties can win 2014
