SHOCK! HORROR! I always like the Opposition to be an effective check and balance on the Government of the day. I don’t think Cunliffe would be an unspeakably offensive leader of the Labour Party; neither would Robertson. Both got their strengths and flaws, but who doesn’t?
Perfectly put Craig. Have a nice day :)

but I think we run the risk of being disappointed if we think that everyone will respond to the same signals.
Which is why I suggested that there are 3 distinct styles. Plus, pointing out that (I think) Nactional are full of it and that it seemed to work for them is not suggesting anything other than that and that if one of the contenders is a bit like that, it should not frighten the horses. Everyone is different. Them and me and you. Your preferences is different to mine. So be it.

The actual correct answer was the one Grant managed to give without the macho dick-waving.
We have constantly heard that no one takes on John Key . That Labour needs a pit bull etc etc. Mr Nice guy didn't work. David Shearer was pilloried. I think the macho dickwaving that JK and his co. display seems to please many no end, so tip toeing won't help, much the same as David Shearer experienced.Let's face it, JK has taught us that bullshit baffles brains (of all sorts) but doesn't have to change your popularity.

“Fuck you” is the correct answer. A parliament cannot bind it’s successor – Key may have purported to do so by signing up for a 30 year contract, but statutes can always void contracts.I’m sure this will piss off the labour-voting Sky City shareholders – both of them.
Well said :)

Sofie, what I meant was that to me they all seemed very much interchangeable.
I think as this proceeds we will spot the differences but we really already know them if one watches the Party. The fact is they all need to convince and win over the public, That is when the strengths will show up.
I never watched this programme you speak of so I will go find it. Did RB link?? I wonder.... -

1: Just what, precisely, is the difference between these three? They all seemed to be saying the exact same thing. They, Robertson especially, also seemed to endorse each other.
The difference is the public get a say. If you are a member you get a vote. With 3 very distinct styles from these guys, the public get to cosy up to the one they prefer. That drags the people in. All being Labour will get them all on the same thing. They should be able to work together with the same ideals. That is necessary for the future. They should get along. They are in the same Party. But just like “The Block” or “House Rules”, the audience eventually wants the best outcome with no losers. Plus the added bonus that the weary public can learn that a gay person is not frightening or a conservative is not that frightening or a slightly egotistical guy is not that scary either.IMO
Oh, and what Bart said :)

He pretty much covered all bases. Good on him for trying to appease as many as possible. He obviously knows he's got to try to convince some but I thought his face showed some integrity. One sentence about his wife , his kid, his affording exclusive Herne Bay, and his history was a good piece for journos. Plus all sorts of people in his office. Plus he's Auckland. I'm Goff land and I like him too but others obviously didn't. All of them seem very individual. I like that melting pot.

So it looks like there are 3 suspected contenders which I think shows the diversity of the party.. No matter, I'm really happy that everyone from media, Party faithful and the public in general are all chatting about this. I'm really pleased at the diversity. I believe it will help enhance the labour vote giving everyone a feeling of connection no matter who prefers who.Let's hope it leads to victory 2014. I think they all have a chance. That's healthy. The Greens are a natural alliance too.
