  • Hard News: High Times,

if the challenges facing her include bulimia, using pot is quite probably a good thing.

A few years ago I read a news story where research had been done to see if the "munchies" effect of smoking pot could help people with eating disorders, but it didn't seem to have any effect. Possibly because eating disorders and munchies are caused by different parts of the brain.

    Pass the Burger Rings, ow.

  • Stories: Memorable Meals,

On the subject of the crazy stuff that goes on in our bodies, yesterday's Observer had an article by Gary Taubes considering the (controversial) idea that exercise does not cause weight loss. Yay?

  • Hard News: Moron y Moron,

I was out at The Checks the night before. They were great -- and I actually think Sven is one of the better guitarists I've ever heard.

Faaaaaaack the Checks were choice. I had such a bloody good time that it wiped me out till Saturday afternoon. And when I came to write about it, it was the first time that I had the "dancing about architecture" problem with writing about music: words were not enough to describe their awesomeness. But I gave it a crack, anyway.

Robyn, you posted your response to my childish drinking joke when I was preparing my bad taste art debate joke.

They are in no way related . I hope your well.

PA System can be tough on the lolz timing. (And as it happens, I'm enjoying a cup o' peppermint tea.)

  • Random Play: The Lion Doesn't Sleep Tonight,

As a member of the church of scientology, I believe that Tom Cruise will think and say what he's damn well told.

That is a curiously ambiguous sentence.

    link

Thanks, steven. That www cyber 'web' page helped me determine if I had a drinking problem. I will now go and talk to my youth pastor about my issues. But first I must get pissed.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

Big ups to the capitalist pigs

The article sez: "Once they have chosen, all their future transactions will automatically be conducted in the selected language."

For me, this conjures up a nightmare situation: Pissed, out on the town, needing to get some money out, and a BNZ ATM appears. "Choice," I slur. "I'm gonna do this in te reo Maori!!!!111tahi" So I press the Maori button and manage to drunkenly withdraw kotahi rau tara.

But then, maybe a week later, in the cold light of day, I find myself needing to get some cash out and am faced with a menu that I'm only slightly familiar with.

    Yay.

  • Hard News: Real Media,

Despite apparently being able to type at 500 words a minute I actually was a 2 finger typist until I left university

Oi, the world record for typing is about 170wpm! Did you maybe mean 50wpm or 500 characters per minute?

Speed doesn't mean much without accuracy :)

  • Hard News: Real Media,

I was thinking back to the computer education I had at school. At intermediate school ('86/'87) there was a lab of Commodore 64s, where we learned the Logo programming language (boring!), used Bank Street Writer and played Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.

But by the time I got to high school, there was no compulsory computer education. I learned to type on an electric typewriter. Touch-typing has served me well, but all the other skills - like counting spaces and tabbing across to lay out a brochure - were virtually obsolete when they were being taught.

Most of my computer education was self-taught. It was mucking around on the Vic-20, Commodore 64, DOS computer, and finally Windows at home. Doing fun stuff that I enjoyed, rather than the unpleasant experience of doubling up with someone in a computer lab at school.

  • Radiation: Desperate Heroes,

Nurse, we need a thesaurus in here, stat! Set it to superlative, and add 20MG of hyperbole.

Hey, I always choose my words thoughtfully. Send that nurse to someone who is truly illin'.
