Emma:"And as a general point of netiquette, I think that whenever you find yourself arguing against a particular 'group' about what happens to that group, when it's a group you don't belong to, it might be time to inhale for a minute and just listen."
That is the message that I get. If you don't agree with a majority position then just listen. Women only. Men get out. If that is netiquette then so ends discussion. Sad. -
Sacha. I was just trying to make it quite clear that I was not excusing violence/harrasment against women. And stating the things that we seemed to agree on. Didn't work did it.

I am not trying to win an argument. I sort of knew that what I was saying would be twisted into somehow justifying or excusing the worst behviour of in this case perverted men. I am not! As Emma says "I'm saying, and several of us are saying, over and over again, not that what you wear shouldn't make a difference to your chances of being harassed, but that it doesn't." OK. I accept that. I have 3 sisters two daghters-inlaw, a wife and three grand-daughters. They should and do stand up for their rights as we encourage them to do. I just hope that none of you will cause them to not reduce the risk factors. Water-ski but at least consider wearing a life jacket. I respectfully withdraw.

I reread what I wrote. At no point did I suggest that she was asking for it. Some of you seem to be tied that any suggestion of risk being greater, must be some dude trying to justify his attack on a vulnerable woman. Not so! My wife likes to drop the rental car off across town at night and walk home about 15 minutes. I do worry that the risk is greater even in a quiet little town like this. Do I say she is asking for it and therefore it is her own fault if she is attacked? Certainly not! Do I think that there is a greater risk for her? Yes. Would that risk be greater if she wore skimpy clothes and called in at the pub? You say it shouldn't be. OK. I say probably the risk is greater.
How on Earth does "Do I have the right to pull the tiger's tail? Would it be wise to do so?" ,turn into she asked for it??? Different wavelength I am afraid. -

Do I think that a girl skimpily dressed accentuating her bare body, and entering into dark and lonely space is wise? No. And when my daughter was a teen she chose not to.

AndrewH + Stewart. Well said - and brave.

It is possible that since Maori seats are an Auckland issue, the Maori Party will instead get favours for the Seabed and Foreshore in compensation, and this would have wider appeal.
I had no thoughts about a Jewish connection to Key nor saw anything nasty in Lukes comments, but now I do so thanks Craig. (?)

Hide is far too wily to have threatened to resign without knowing the outcome. It is a bit like knowing today what the weather will be yesterday. The Maori Party was on a Hide-ing to nothing. We got both.

Trouble with speeding car analogy is that true easy to tell if by numbers you broke the law. Smacking measured? My youngest from literally the moment he was born could bellow. I guess if he was smacked he could have persuaded the whole world that he was in enormous agony.
Morgan I wonder who confused the population? Any thoughts and why would they? -
Sofie! Were you spying on us? Word for word! Dammit. There should be a law that what we do to our kids in private is our own business! God knows!
