  • Hard News: Paths and ways, in reply to Russell Brown,

The council is putting lots of paths on green belts

    All good right?
Our rural road has been selected for the treatment; get that damned grass off there ; weeks of scraping off the top soil ; lots of machinery rumbling ; pathways laid on top of the soil. Bugger the carbon squestration :-)
We already had a single- lane tar- seal road.
But now the council lawn mowers have a new strip either side of the “shared” pathway to mow forever. Cool.

  • Hard News: Music! That one album, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

From the Stuff article that you linked to:-

    " The same Jaguars he'd side-swiped while on . . ."

In the immediate aftermath of the "sideswipe", a rickety rickshaw , departing the scene somewhat the worse for wear , was identified by the driver of a passing Morris 1000, the same car that delivered the Fender to The Divine Light Concert featured above. He walked in my door together with the driver of the Morris. A surprise visit :-)
    True story.
    You wouldn't read about it.

  • Hard News: Music! That one album, in reply to linger,

The amusing thing for me is seeing on the album sleeve that we played a number of different songs ; I thought it was just one , with different movements.
But my job was just to provide a sort of continuo for the soloist, and given the impromptu nature of it , I was never going to try anything flashy :-)
The Fender Rhodes piano (which made it to Wellington in the back of a Morrie thou . . . don't try that at home ) can be used like an organ because of the long sustain.

  • Hard News: Music! That one album,

Talk about emerging from the void . . . 1975 St James Theatre Wellington.
From my point of view (as the keyboard player seconded to the gig) this was all written in the moment, and if you want to say that it sounds that way , I’m comfortable.
Powerhouse were notorious for writing new things on stage mostly by accident , or something.
Not too much of this stuff around these days . . . not everyone's cup of tea , I guess.

[business as usual . . .perpetuates as mass psychology] only because it has been the source of employment.

There might be other reasons , e.g. people might be inherently conservative , and tolerant of no more than incremental change.
That is , tolerant of incremental change up until the point where the people have nothing to lose , and will therefore risk radical change .
If Green poicies were perceived as sensible by the majority, the degree of change required to implement those policies might still be seen as too radical.
I’m not sure what the raison d’etre of the Green party was , as perceived by its founders, let alone what it stands for now.
To legislate for sustainability , possibly?

  • Hard News: Public Address Word of the…,

    So, it must be so.

This is a difficult word to use correctly , as its full meaning is : -
" . . . .because there is no disagreement with all that I have , as yet, refrained from iterating , it therefore follows that . . . "

parties most in accord with most voters prosper

Yes , but assuming a political party has this one particular (drugs) policy “in accord with most”, then it is their other policies, which are not “in accord with most” , which are preventing them from being in a position to achieve much or any (depending on the electoral system) of their policies.

    unable to speak publicly

So an uninformed , disinformed , disinterested , or fearful majority of the public will not encourage law change, and so politicians will act accordingly to maintain approval.
It's quite an opposing force to overcome if the harm of the present situation is to be reduced.
Presumably , for the public , current levels of abuse, and the consequences of that abuse , are tolerable.
