Stella is the best lil’ dog in the whole wide world ;)

I love the way she just wanders around the end of our street as if she owns the place. Happy to interact with people, but not obsequious. Just checking out her domain

they could also be saying that they’re resigned to it.

Aye that they could. But being resigned to having your party corrupted by some seriously selfish individuals isn't all that flash a position either.

I get that Key and his cronies don't really represent most National party members let alone their voters but that doesn't excuse giving them power.

I have no idea what their plan is

Yes you do. You just can't face how awful it is.

Key and the senior National party leaders around him have decided leading the country is a waste of their time and talents. Instead they have gained power and then used their power to make themselves and their friends rich at the expense of those they care nothing about.

    They are simply corrupt.

They have a plan and they have executed it.

    They have no decency.

Anyone who votes for these people after the disclosures of the last month is saying they are happy to be represented by corrupt selfish politicians.

    kill off ACC and Pharmac

Most New Zealander's have NO IDEA how valuable both of these organisations are. They have combined to make it possible to run a first world health system on a third world budget.

already have plenty of evidence-based policy

Yup I know, that’s why I said strongER.

Whereas for National I would have said get ANY evidence based policy.

But I also think they need to make a thing of it across the board.
eg Raising minimum wage because data from all these countries shows it improves quality of life in the whole society overall.

    the anti Labour/Greens rhetoric

The way I have been hearing it from my relatives is , they HAVE to vote National to avoid The Greens, who have been successfully tarred as wanting to drive us all back to the stone age. The logic is that a vote for Labour is a vote for The Greens.

And yes I find that logic absurd too.

That's why I really really want The Greens to become much stronger on evidence based policy, it takes away the "fear of loonies" that is "forcing" the reasonable center voters to vote National.

  • Hard News: Why we thought what we thought, in reply to oga,

is my perception of Labour as being basically a centre-right party that leans to the left correct?

    No.

Or more accurately not in world terms. Seriously ACT might just get time of day as right wing in the US but even they would be slammed for some of their policies.

Both National and Labour are center left parties in the world sense and certainly in comparison to anything in the US. And that reflects New Zealand as a whole, which is fundamentally socialist, despite what some few right wing loonies might try and claim.

We certainly have nothing in New Zealand that would satisfy a true left wing voter. Good grief even under Labour we still had some of the lowest taxation in the developed world.

The (biggest) problem I have with National is that mostly their policies are pure ideology from the 70s, trickle down economics, management knows best and greed is good. There is forty years of political and economic science to which they seem oblivious. But even with those dumbass policies they still retain public health, public education, national superanuation and social welfare all of which would be abhorrent to any Republican in the US and pretty scary for many Democrats.
