No, and the questions were exclusively targeted at Whipp, whose refusal to speak has become completely fucking unacceptable, given his central role in what's happened.

They were all even bid good night at the end. In the circumstances, I don't find this unacceptable at all.

I don't know who was holding the camera and asking the questions, but I can understand why he wasn't answering their questions then and at that time.

Yes the union should be answering questions, I'm just not sure they have to do it to anyone who asks them late at night after they've had dinner. To the media the next morning, yes.

But yes, no evidence of lynch mob there.

  • Radiation: Not funny,

The reason we couldn't watch the full episodes of the Daily Show and Colbert from the official sites was supposed to be because of C4 and (later) Comedy Central's licenses.

You can watch the full episodes, you just need to watch it in 3 - 4 clips from their web site. A minor inconvenience for getting your Daily Show fix.

Looks like Warner Bros have been "disingenuous" (as they say in Parliament).

Interesting. Score one for the unions? That makes it... 1-10 now?

Can I just say that I am fucked off by Ian Mune's oh-so avuncular bullshit on Breakfast this morning? Patronising delusional old prick.

That was quite bizarre wasn't it. And didn't really add anything to the debate other than some heat.

Kyle made a comment about the use of the word "Union" - it is of course a trade union.

    Did I?

Like others I think the idea that Warners have done this deliberately to get out of NZ is pretty far fetched. There would certainly be implications for them if they did though in terms of public opinion however. There's an attachment out there between middle earth and NZ amongst a lot of fans and it would be a minor backlash.

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

I've been told of an unlucky pair of children (from Timaru, of course) who, when visiting relatives with family, as a huge group dreaded dinner time - dinner plates being scarce -and were presented with the dog and cat's dishes "given a quick rinse".

I know of a student whose flat, in order to save issues with dishes, went out at the beginning of the year and bought one dog bowl, one fork, one knife, one spoon (all plastic), all the same colour for each flatmate. That's what they eat everything off.

Saves issues about who left what dishes about, who's bowl is whose, and apparently makes washing up much quicker.

    Those crazy students.

AND WHAT A COINCIDENCE (if coincidence it was) that Jackson’s vicious display of anti-union fury should occur within 24 hours of 22,000 workers turning out to demonstrate their opposition to the National Government’s Employment Relations Amendment Bill.

I like that subtle way he says it's a coincidence, and then hints that it might not actually be one. Oh Chris.

I hope Helen Kelly is able to release the email correspondance btwn the union and studio over the ban lifting notification very soon.

    someone is spinning greviously here.

Hear hear. One or the other is not telling the truth and I'd like to see evidence either way. It would say a lot about either side of this dispute.

*Waits for Helen Kelly to answer Russell's questions*

    *Patiently*

That might take a while. The actors dispute isn't the only thing going on at present, there's these teachers as well, and in terms of media PAS is probably about 50th on the list.

John Campbell just had a Brian Edwards moment on Campbell Live. "I have solved the dispute!". He's a cheery fellow.

In essence in NZ a union executive can embank on any policy direction if they (the executive, the CTU, or the Labour Party) wish to without having to consult with the union membership.

I'm a member of a CTU affiliated union and I don't think anything of what you've said here applies. Our executive members are unpaid, we vote before employment negotiations about our claims, meetings are held at a variety of times because some people have to run operations and need to go to meetings in shifts so that everyone can attend. Meetings are typically run at very civil times and the major problem with them is not enough people attending, the union does everything it can to get everyone there.

I'd also point out that if I was a union official with a knowledge of union history, I'd be very concerned about a counter-meeting or march which I thought might be coming to my meeting.

You'd hope that such a thing would be civil, but I'd have no desire to put my members into a confrontation with other workers who were unhappy with them and their actions. There's been plenty of incidents in union history where that's gone really wrong.

That doesn't make the concerns of the technicians etc totally valid. Just that who'd want those two groups to come together in a confrontation.

  • Up Front: Oh, Cock!,

Get it up, and stick it in a full cup (or in my case a yard glass ho ho), and measure how much water is displaced.

I'm not picturing some unusual contortionism as a bunch of fully erect men try to get their penises comfortably pointing directly downwards.

It's not exactly clear, but SAG seem to be suggesting they only got the recommendation today?? Or maybe they're just saying they're only rescinding the no work order today, but might have gotten the recommendation earlier?

There may be entirely practical reasons for that. It may have to go through a board made up of delegates - actors - who only meet weekly or fortnightly. SAG being a union after all.

"Our understanding is the major impediment to The Hobbit films being made in New Zealand is the actions of the union not tax incentives," he said.

I think that's probably correct. Now however, probably the thing that would get it back would be another 5% on the tax incentives.
