  • Hard News: Helen, in reply to Andre,

"Bitter, hardened " , look I come from a much more right position and am seriously suspicious of people who seem to have a born to rule thanks to their dad than most here but that was not how I saw her.
Strong and determined, not always right but someone who did a lot of good for low paid workers.
Her work on timber workers safety saved lives, nothing more needs to be said.

  • Up Front: Our House,

Nicely said Emma or rather written.

.Nobody told me at the time, which was probably the right thing to not do.

Just to be clear, not tell you was the right thing to have done or?

  • Southerly: I Fell Down,

David, I have missed your posts and this explains all.
You don't come over as complaining but things have not been going your way.
My wife is believer in bad things coming in threes ( personally I think it depends on when you start counting) so count your blessings and look on the bright side of life.
Oh and the aforementioned wife ( teacher, Principal, clever clogs etc) says you are doing a great job "as parents as first teachers".
    All the best.

  • Polity: The Taxpayers' Union rides again!,

What is not to like about the concept of a UBI
But Rob instead of running interference for the Labour Party how about tell us the truth
$200 a week while affordable for the country is not enough for most people to survive on, unless you propose tops ups
    Treasury did a paper in 2010 http://igps.victoria.ac.nz/WelfareWorkingGroup/Downloads/Working%20papers/Treasury-A-Guaranteed-Minimum-Income-for-New-Zealand%20.PDF
They used a figure of $300 a week plus $85 per child
That unfortunately that used up the whole tax take which meant if we wanted all the other things a government supplies like education and health a lot of extra tax was needed.
A bit similar to the figure David Farrar (liar, liar, pants on fire) came up with
David "forgot" to factor in the considerable saving of dropping Winz
So who is trying to BS us
Time for you or Labour to get off your arse and give us some real figures to work with

  • Polity: Let the big lies flow,

So if David Farrar is lying, how about telling us just how Labour is going to pay for UBI, higher GST, higher taxes on all the bands, what?
And is $200 a week going to be enough
Let's wait and see how Finland manage it first before climbing on the band wagon, or is going to end up like that other great Labour policy, "flag change"

  • Hard News: Fix up, young men,

    Disgraceful and totally unacceptable
And as a man, let's be prepared to speak out and act when we see or hear this
Because it is only when all of us make it plain how uncool this behaviour is that there will be any control

Hilary, your mother was a wise lady but I doubt if you needed me to tell you that!
The braveness pills were pure genius, wish I had had them as a child

  • OnPoint: The Whaledump Saga: Scooby-Doo Edition,

Interesting but as always when dealing with these clowns (and doesn't this prove what clowns they are) we are not getting the full story
Missing log entries, cover ups of journalists and on it goes
Interestingly the possible name of Slaters funder has been mentioned on another blog
I don't want to drop Russell into legal problems, so no clues
    More mystery
Oh all right, read PG's blog if you want more

  • Hard News: The good guys,

    Nicely written Russell
I like to think there is an echo of small town New Zealand in the actions of SBW and the rest of the All Blacks in dealing with a young boy's rush into the field
But then being a small town boy, I would say that
Whatever, you would have to be a hard hearted not to feel a bit emotional about the way they acted

  • Field Theory: It's about time,

Well everybody is entitled to their opinions, though I note you don't allow McCaw that right
Amazes me how quickly people forget what the other side did especially if they are supporters
I give you Miss Clark who broke the law ( or encouraged her police escort to do ) to rush to a league game that I suggest she had as much interest in as I have in tap dancing because it would go down well with her voters
Different when we do it, maybe or just what pollies of all stripes will do to stay in power
