Shit, you're the only reason why I've visited PA. (Yea, I had to register to say this...).
-
Tze Ming, it's been a real pleasure reading your blog entries over the past couple of years, and they've sparked off some of the more interesting PA System discussions.
I'm gonna miss your posts, kool thing, but I know this won't be the last we'll hear from you.
-
There will be a lot of people saying this more eloquently, but us white boys is gonna miss you!
All the best with your [redacted] new [redacted] doing [redacted] for [redacted] over there in [redacted] (near the prostate). -
Tze Ming, you have no idea how much I'm going to miss your writing. You're smarter, funnier and more savage than anyone who's ever tried to take you on.
Good luck in your... um... new position, but do come out of the... shadows to dazzle us and skewer a few racists with your wit.
Do you blog for bribes?
-
If Stephen Franks is threatening to stand in Wellington for National again who will be around to diss his Coddingtonswollop without you?
Still, if you are working for the likes of NZTE or MFAT (is that who is redacted?) all I can say is, about time. The hot meals for the number of times I have heard those guys say they can't get the "appropriate staff", when really they mean white kids who are good at funny languages, would fill me with spicy food for a long time.

Aw ... I kept it together till I saw the little cat picture. Blub.
What you've done here is important, and people will still think that in years to come. More so, probably.
Remember, the door is always open for a guest post from Geneva. Always.
-
I used to be in a band where the motto was "skinny white boys sing the blues." No shame in that.
I'm very sad about this, and I hope you'll come back here physically and virtually. Thanks for all the entertainment and information.
-
And from what I can see from here, the Movement back home is taking care of itself.
Have you seen this?
Are you sure you want to desert us?
-
Hwyl am y dro, ewch a serchiadau (in less than perfect language).
-
Was hankering for a new YP post and got one, but not quite what I was hoping for!
All the very best. I've enjoyed your blog immensely and will miss your writing.
-
So. Sad.
You certainly helped force me into delurking, all the very best.

djb,
Hey TM, I was in Australia when I caught my first Yellow Peril post, on MC Jin. And damn, I felt homesick, like, I am in my country of birth but not in my hood and Auckland is, for all its many faults, a unique city. So that was very influential on my return - never thanked you for it but now is the time.
And see if you can get some time in UNOOSA and stop us from colonising outer space.
Kia kaha, kia manawanui!
-
Oh no! Damn respectable jobs for redactful agencies!
Thank you so much for your awesome posts, for being the voice I could relate to (and thanks for introducing Sepia Mutiny into my world) and, well, making the political sphere at home not feel so isolating.
Good luck!
-
Thank you for the thought provoking posts and your nice line in humour. Have fun in your ongoing search for “food and the hot guys” and if your head space is suitably aligned, do take up Russell’s offer to guest post.
-
Ditto about Sepia Mutiny.

Re that link of I/O's: that's my future sister-in-law's story, pretty much in a nutshell. Except she's been living in Chch for years, and I think that everyday racism is actually taking a toll on her mental health. It's pretty sad because she's acculturated enough that she doesn't get on when she visits Japan either - New Zealand has trained her to be too aggressive for a Japanese woman and to forget her mandatory happy face.
Dunno if Christchurch is really any worse than any other city though.
-
Sue,
Tze Ming
thank you so much for you amazing posts, and having the strength to say so many things as a writer on PA. I've always loved your thoughts and contribution to PA.
honestly it's truly sad to see another woman with a strong voice depart from the online world here in NZ. Goodness knows i don't have the strength or the fight in me to say many of the things i think, but so often (especially in the same post the amazing robyn links to) I didn't need to becuase you would.
So thank you
you will be missed more than i think you even realise -
Thanks and best wishes from another random white boy. You'll be missed. We liked your voice. May you continue to fly swift and true.
-
Tze Ming, best of luck for everything.
Your measured, intelligent reaction, analysis and deconstruction of the "Asian Angst" bilge was outstanding amd much appreciated.
Look after yourself, take it easy and have a most-excellent Christmas and 2008.
-
I lived in ChCh from 1994 to 1997 (not of my own choosing), and between ChCh and Dunedin from that point until the end of 2001.
From my experiences, I found Dunners to be more cosmopolitan than ChCh. All the more so when I attended a very prestigious private school in ChCh. My yeargroup guide told me at the time, "you'll recognise who the boarders are because they won't particularly like you." I later realised many of them were from rural areas who packed their insularity into their suitcases.
I was in university by the time I went to Dunners, which definitely helped. Even outside the university sphere, I felt surprisingly at ease. Dunners seems to have a higher proportion of students (local and foreign) than other major centres in NZ.
Since moving back to WLG in 2002, I've hardly ever been racially slurred. I suspect whenever race issues ever pop up in WLG, the culprit is usually a member of the Bridge & Tunnel brigade.
As for the ExpatExposed forum-goers, have any of them heard of FightDemBack? The EE'ers already gotten mad, so FDB might give them impetus to actually get even.
-
PS. Tze Ming, hope you're enjoying it over in Helvetia.
-
There was a young blogstar named Tze Ming,
Who'd write with the bite of a bee sting:
Hypocrisy's slayer,
Forsooth a truth-sayer,
We sure gonna miss all that she bring. -
Oh lord, I missed something. Is that the actual North and South Asian Angst cover kitty?
-
Is that the actual North and South Asian Angst cover kitty?
Nope, the Lucky Cat belongs to us, always.

A sad day. I of course have a vested interest, but PA's going to be a lot less interesting without you. A lot of people will feel that - not just the 'Movement' that you were instrumental in bringing together. And as much in a literary sense as for the political import.
As Russell says, this was an important contribution. I hope that [redacted] agency makes sure what you're doing now is as important.
Here's to the 'chick' who'd always rather fight than switch!
