If two people have unprotected PIV sex once there's a small chance one of them will get pregnant,

Although perhaps this small chance is increased because the 'once' that the two people decide to have unprotected PIV sex is when the woman is ovulating - and more horny - and (so I've heard) more sexually attractive. If the two people are teenagers and there's any ambivalence about the decision, I'd bet this is when they do it.

Yes, to be safe, they need to be doing it when they're not horny, and using a condom. I can recommend the contraceptive power of this approach.

I wonder if I am alone in thinking that "horny" is the most cringeworthy word on earth.

    Righto then, as you were.

I thought that was why sex educators always try to emphasise that your parents have sex? "kids, when you think about having sex, think about your parents having sex". Should work wonders.

Nope I find it a word I don't use ..ever. Even reading it out loud sounds foreign to me.

I definitely don't love it. Good substitutes?

kids, when you think about having sex, think about your parents having sex"

Because I grew up in a pretty modernist open plan house (It was all glass as well as no rooms bar the bathroom on my parents side, we kids had wardrobe /room dividers in our part of the house, also all glass with same private bathroom) I had the opportunity to, on occasion, see my parents having sex. As a youngster, I thought Dad was squashing Mum. As I grew older, I gave them peace.

  • Paul Williams, in reply to Nat,

I recently heard the acronym RPI or "Root Potential Inquiry". This is more to do with intonation than specific language. It turns the comment "how are you", which would otherwise mean "how's your day been", into "quick, let's get the kids to bed".

For some reason I just remembered that "beating my meat" is the most offensive sexual metaphor I can imagive. Anyone approaching my genitals with a meat tenderiser is going to get a vigorous rebuff.

I'm drawing such a blank here. 'Aroused' is too specific, and 'up for it' is too vague. I suppose if Jersey Shore has given us anything of lasting value apart from Snooki, it may be the acronym 'DTF', which stands for 'down to fuck'.

Up for it? Down for it? Wet'n'wanton? I can't think of a one-word substitute, and am annoyed that "sexy" is such a passive term.

Was just about to suggest 'concupiscent' and use it in a sentence when my partner got home and said I looked like I'd been doing something naughty.

  • BenWilson,

Plenty of synonyms. My favorite "Epicurean". I can only think of one Epicurean, apart from Epicurus - Dido - and she certainly was horny. One particularly epicurean girl in my classics class "accidentally" read out her name as "Dildo" during a recital of the Aeneid. Also "Penis Aeneas". He was a bit of a dick, so it was apt.

    concupiscent

Up for it has fewer syllables. Although the connotations of concupiscent are quite pleasant, I fear that too many people would star blankly and that might kill the moment. Plus, the ex-catholic girly might think I wanted her in her old school uniform again.

Those t shirts on women who are all jiggly with it are very distracting.

Also, "I could kill you with my brain" is a very bad thing to write across your boobs.

Gawd, there's one I've never heard used that way: Gadabout.

I just sang The Teddybear's Picnic to my kids before lights out. Suddenly:

    You'll see them gayly gadabout
they love to play and shout
    they never have any cares

    ...has a whole new meaning.
