Hey, waitaminnit.... I just checked the F&B form guide you linked to - Rachel Hunter? My new book doesn't have any pictures of THAT one!
-
I've been inspired by the book the Big Year. So much so I'm thinking of buying this - although I'd welcome suggestions if there are other useful tomes that you'd like to recommend?
And out of curiousity does Graeme or anyone else know if New Zealand has a Big Year equivalent?

bumper stickers
My friend sent me some genuine Vote Bush/Cheney 04 bumber stickers. I wanted to put them on my car but I doubted anyone here would have got the joke.
And I didn't want my car kicked in ...
So I didn't ... -
Back in the mid 90s on a trip to San Francisco I got a T shirt with Richard Nixon on the front and the slogan: "he's tanned, rested and Dead - Nixon in '96!"
-
I want a vintage Nixon campaign pin - the ones that say 'Nixon: Now, More Than Ever'. I suppose now that George II is on his way out, the joke is less funny. (Depending on who they/we get for president next, of course.)

3410,
BREAKING:
Grey Warbler wins 2007 Bird Of The Year by landslide.
-
Yay! Power to PAS!

Announced at 1:57 today on Radio Live. Forest & Bird 2007 Bird Of The Year.
Grey Warbler/Riroriro (Gerygone igata) wins at last!
Same jersey as the All Blacks, but a different result.
However, Greme Hill, Secretary of the Committe to Elect the Grey Warbler 2007, would like to unreservedly apologise for some of the unkind things he said about some of the other Native Bird contestants during the camnpaign this week. He understands that they may have indeed been hurtful and sincerely regrets any aspersions cast in any of their directions.
"I'm deeply sorry about the level I found myself descending to, making personal ad birdinem attacks. I would like to specially apologise to the Woodpigeon and Blackfronted Tern communities. It was coming to the end of a tough campaign and I admit that I was rather tired and emotional when those remarks were made.
Nonetheless, this is a tremendous result, one that all the Grey Warbler committee members, supporters and voters who put in so much effort are ecstatic about and can be rightfully proud of. This is a great day for the Grey Warbler community, our hardest working native."

For immediate release:
The mainstream media should ask not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for them, said Qantas Awards-winning blogger Russell Brown today.
"The Grey Warbler's astonishing surge to victory in the final days of the 2007 Bird of the Year vote underlines the crucial influence of the blogosphere in modern democracies," said Brown, the founder of the Public Address group blog website.
"Sure, the MSM might have tried to grab some of the glory with so-called 'news' stories when the Warbler took wing, but the story was done and dusted by then. The people had spoken, and they spoke blog."
An impassioned call to arms by broadcaster Graeme "Hill" Hill in the final days of the election sparked a swelling of popular sentiment that had changed history, said Brown.
"I'm deeply proud of Graeme," said Brown, "and I would like to emphasise that some rash comments made by Graeme after his blog post was published can be wholly ascribed to a pre-existing medical condition.
"But let us put that to one side, and drink in the full significance of the occasion. Today, we are all riroriro."

I'm forwarding this thread to the SIS.
Surely Hill & Brown can't seriously be such avid bird-fanciers? (They're both married after all -- ba-dumm!) So it must be code for something else ...
I'd advise everyone to stay indoors. Something is afoot, methinks.
I'm going to duct tape my windows just in case ...

I think you'll find this was a dry run for a massive brainwashing operation that will be put into effect in next year's general election.
One day there'll be a Speaker post. "Lolz!!!", it will read. "Vote for Labour!!!! i can haz 4th term!!!!!"
We will vote for Labour, but yet be not quite sure why we voted.
-
rather like the last election, you mean?
Sure... just as soon as ballot papers can be submitted online. Until then, the effect of campaigning in online communities will be quite limited ('cos you won't get the samr kind of immediate response). I would also point out that the GW campaign here had more of a reasoned argument behind it than most party political communications. What worries me is that the Nats seem set to coast in using some of the same arguments (__Isn't it time the guys in the grey suits won for a change? Don't they talk pretty?__) unless more attention is directed to, you know, actual issues.

Sometimes things just are what they are, and nothing more.
The leaning tower of Pisa is not necessarily symbolic of a middle-aged architects battle with impotence.
It's a tower leaning over a bit.
The Homer tunnell is not necessarily Otago making an arsehole of itself. It's a tunnell.
Elect Grey Warbler campaign? It was, an "Elect The Grey Warbler campaign".
Don't sully this lovely bird with political chicanery. ;-)
And thanks everybody for such a great effort. I was truly elated at the result.
Kindest regards, Graeme.

Of course, you won't be able to run a Grey Warbler campaing in election year, not unless you register with the Electoral Commission as a third party, under the Electoral Finance Bill...
I still voted for the kaka, btw. We wuz robbed.
I blame the ref, women teachers, soy milk, the rotation policy (which was really all those old deceased All Blacks turning in their graves); the Exclusive Brethren, global warming, Tame Iti, 15 year old drivers, and the return of Jim Hickey to do the weather.
Bastards, all.

Bastards, all.
You mean, "bustards".
-
... and sometimes a cock is just a gallic symbol ...
-
I/O - do you mean duck tape?
Post your response…
