Christchurch should sell our assets to please people who live in a city where sewer covers are welded down because the system is so poorly maintained that without doing so you would have effluent geysers in the streets?

Surprising then Jeremy...
Looks like Jeremy Botham forgot who he was talking to there, for a moment. Or, you know, he's not who he purports to be.

Yep.

Hebe,
Russell: thanks, lots of them, to you for the space, the threads, the calm concern on all the earthquake threads. Also to all the PASers who have been around, doing what they do so well here: informing each other, writing fine tales, taking great pictures, debating and giving strength. Every one of the regulars has played their part in helping shore up me and mine amid our hometown being smashed.
We live 2km from the February quake epicentre and near the river. We had 2.5 years of near constant earthquakes: 14,500 to date. Broken sleep, fear, kids to soothe, olds to care for, work to do, and untold downstream effects that cannot be planned for or mitigated. Floods this year sent many of us to breaking point. (My neighbours sold up and left today as a result of their children flipping after three floods threatened their house.)
Greg’s PAS piece about the floods and the physical and emotional aftermath struck a huge chord – people are still telling us how it (also reprinted in the Press) gave voice to their thoughts and made them realise they were not alone in feeling that way.
The piece also, without a doubt, prodded the government into some action when the TV networks picked up on the human cost.
A large group of us is now party as intervener to a Declaratory Judgement hearing in the High Court which has been brought by insurers and EQC to determine settlements for land damage and flooding issues. The Christchurch City Council has joined in to put its perspective.
Around 9000 property-owners will find out on September 26 whether their property is deemed to be flood-prone as a result of the quakes and about EQC’s proposed settlement. Coincidentally, six days after the election. The much fewer of us in the Judgement case go to court at the end of October. Then who knows.
Meanwhile we must find $5-7K to get someone to assess our knackered foundations because the former policewoman and young builder – who couldn’t work their new iPads – omitted to record the damage when they assessed the house for the February 22 quake. If we are lucky, EQC will accept the damage and refund the money.
I relate this because it is a common story: not out of the ordinary. It’s part of how many of us live. Many are much worse off: they cannot live in their own homes: many are close to financial ruin if not already there. The systemic abuse of power by insurance companies and EQC needs to be addressed – it could be your city, your home next.
If you cannot decide who to vote for, please give consideration to all this and look for the party that will help resolve it.
And great big hugs to Russell and you all. Thank you so much.

" I will actually remove you if you can't do this."
What a show-off bully-boy you are Russell.
Playing up to your converts and threatening censorship as your ultimate ploy.
I notice you didn't raise a murmur to the vile abuse I copped from I Dalziel.
That's cos he's a regular disciple on the site.
You used to be on the telly but I know for a fact that your lefty bias became tiresome to the deciders who got rid of you. No wonder you have it in for the Auckland media!
You don't welcome dissenting views......your site would flourish in Albania. -
Never mind, "Jeremy". I'm sure there's an audience for you somewhere. Possibly even a paying one.
-
Bull...frog...
Jerem(y)iah is well named
what with all the long lamentations...
and if he thinks my input was vile
he doesn't get out alot
personally I thought I was quite restrained.
(for a disciple)his blandly delivered vituperative observations
show a very insecure individual
with delusions of grandeur
and bad passive aggression
(or is it more 'poe'-faced...?)what's your brief?
tell us how you really feel Jezza...
you know you want to ...actually no, don't bother
paint me uncaring... -

Talk about a sense of entitlement. I think the dick line has been well crossed, Russell.

You don’t welcome dissenting views……your site would flourish in Albania.Yes! I used to be on the telly -- and I still am! It's almost sweet that you're departing with a final act of know-nothing pomposity.
But yes, you are departing. You're plainly not capable of of arguing like a grown-up. Goodbye.

The funny part about all that is that he ended up supporting Gerard's thesis by making NZ media synonymous with Auckland media.

And more specifically, it’s dominated bythe North Shore/Epsom point of view. If one short sentence could sum up the problem with today’s media landscape, it would be as follows: free speech has become cartelised.

Anyway, I didn't do it above, but I'm going to shamelessly self-promote the Capture thread Two Tales of a City, authored by Lilith and Gudrun, both Christchurch locals (at the time :-) ) , which ran from 10 May 2012, with the last comment around May this year.
It is a document of the trials, tribulations, hope and desperation experienced over the years since the quake, and the thing on Capture I am proudest of.
It also managed 1688 comments without descending into pissy little rants from entitled fuckknuckles who clearly came here for a fight.
Thanks for limiting the damage RB.

Hey all you sheep-shagging zealots....listen up! Jeremy is a friend of mine and because you saw fit to censure his honesty Brownie, I reckon its only fair I add the final messages he wanted to impart to you boneheads.
Message 1. So Gerard essentially wants Town and Around back so that slanted earthquake issues are force-fed down the poor, earthquake-fatigued viewers' throats night after night at peak time.
Never mind the fact that these hardworking souls would prefer to watch Master Chef...... they obviously don't know what's best for them and need to be immersed in more earthquake fatigue on a regular basis,
But the sad news for Gerard is that Town and Around ain't coming back, nor is 6 o'clock closing and black and white television.Message 2. Jeremy simply wanted to leave as a parting shot that he felt the need to admit that all his detractors were right all along and that he was wrong.
It's a courageous admission to make but upon reflection, he agrees that the Auckland-based media have it in for Christchurch and are intent on giving your southern city as little exposure as possible.
In fact, he thinks its about time that Aucklanders in general and en masse owned up to rarely thinking of Christchurch and its struggles.
He doesn't know exactly why. Suspects it might have something to do with the large volume of whinging that emerges from the types of Cantabrians that moan and moan on this site. So in a nutshell, you're right. Jeremy and me don't care.
I feel better already....the truth really does set you free.
3. Jeremy has shown me some of the wacky vitriol that some desperately unfunny chap called Dalzell or Delzeal or Del Boy posts in a narcissistic haze day after day.
This slickster really does give himself a big tick......but I reckon even his supposed friends on the site tire of his smarty-pants drivel.
So there you have honesty in spades you blame-seeking Christchurchians. Hopefully having it confirmed that you're right, so very right, so spot on the mark in claiming that Aucklanders don't care can only advance your crusade.4. That's all Jeremy and I would like to add. Please do us the favour of banning us in future, Because we simply don't care enough to partake any further. Good luck with your incessant blame-games....but don't get your hopes up for any change.
Because Aucklanders couldn't give a toss -
Welcome back "Jeremy". I'll say hello now, because I don't think you'll be around for long.

…and this is why the TPPA must be stopped!
…with Pharmac nobbled there would be way more than just the ‘Jeremy’ and ‘Sams’ of this world off their meds to deal with…
I do hope they get the help they need with their ‘issues’…
I understand their anger at not being understood or included,
many in Christchurch do…
…and I’m glad I could help increase their vocabulary.But they’ve a way to go before their mass-debating skills improve….
(here’s a tip to reflect on: us narcissists practice in front of the mirror!) -
And oh by the way, I've been informed that Gerard was able to make at least 12 programmes for a earthquake series last year......showed on Christchurch's local telly station. A bit rich then to claim that ChCh doesn't have voice !!!!

Because Aucklanders couldn’t give a tossI beg to differ. I think you've marked yourself out as a tosser of the first order.

Who needs enemies when you have 'friends' like Sam?

M'kay... if John Campbell is lurking hereabouts I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was smacking his head against the nearest available brick wall. And could I make a modest proposition here? The Herald and the Dom Post gives "your southern city" about as much coverage as, The Press gives to Te Papa's search for a new chief, or Auckland's transport infrstructure -- two long-running stories that are arguably definitely of national interest but I don't find anything sinister if they don't get huge play in Christchurch.
