  • Steve Barnes,

Iti's line about returning the car but not the ownership papers I thought was pretty good actually.

JK Autos, boy do we have a deal for you.

  • George Darroch,

no poll option for "needs seasoning" then?

John Key's blandness and lack of taste goes well with a range of drinks :

Rarely is he seen in a relaxed, informal setting without an acceptable drink: a glass of crisp white wine when at home, a bottle of some authentic South Island beer when he is grilling an authentic Kiwi barbecue with the Young Pretender in the garden of Government House, a bottle of the sponsor's beer when he is hanging out the gym with the All Blacks in a manly but not homo-erotic way.

I don't think it will do any lasting harm.

  • Ian Dalziel,

I recommend the Young Turk Key cutlets...

Although I personally wouldn't order this dish again, my dining companions seemed eager to go for seconds, although this might have had more to do with the lack of a credible alternative on the menu.

What, you didn't go for the Just Des(s)erts?

Key was well out of line with that "joke"
I wonder if he was just trying to take the heat
off his appalling "diplomacy by media"
    over the Tuhoe negotiations....
Respect is a two way street and
he just threw his into heavy traffic!

    Back to the fu(rni)ture then
    and the corner less satin...

  • Rich Lock,

    And back on topic...

Does anyone else double-take when reading this David Cameron quote:

We haven't yet explored all each other's offices

I said slash public spending, not write slash!

    Just me? Ok then.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Just as a matter of interest, anyone think the appointment of the first Muslim woman to serve in a British cabinet was ever so slightly more newsworthy than being told ad nauseum that David Cameron went to Eton?

  • recordari,

    Going back a bit.

I think (and may be wrong) that calling the alternative they are discusssing 'Alternative Vote' is misleading at this stage.

I think they just agreed to discuss an alternative (to FPP), rather than a Capital-A-Alternative, if you see what I mean.

Not sure, but, according to this report, the Conservatives have agreed to support a referendum on Alternative Voting (as in Australia) or Alternative Voting Plus (AV+).

As alluded to earlier, there seems to be quite a lot of confusion, particularly among the media, as to what they are actually talking about. They don't even seem to know what's going on in Scotland, so getting them to look this far for examples would seem optimistic.

You'd have to ask Bronagh about that... (Face it -- you all knew I was going to lower the tone.)

Thank you -- eight shows a week, two matinees, no cover.

  • BenWilson,

Not only a Muslim woman, Craig, but a Baroness. If any Muslim woman was going to get to be a top Tory, she would be it. Working class roots, but in a family of enormous self-made wealth.

Pretty amazing really, youngest person in the House of Lords. Will have to watch to see whether she sticks up for her "demographic" (it's almost a demographic of one, she's that unique). Let's hope!

  • BenWilson,

Interestingly, Craig, she's been tainted by accusations of homophobia and curious sympathy with the BNP, but has denied both of those things. She just thinks that children need to be protected from wanting to work as rent-boys, and that immigrants are a bit of a worry.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Well, I've got to agree with Andrew Sullivan that it's an instructive compare and contrast with the American-right that that Conservatives not only appointed a Muslim woman to Cabinet (and co-chair of the party) but selected an out lesbian for a key marginal seat (which she won) with a pronounced lack of hysteria.

Somehow, I can't imagine any of the gay MPs in the Coalition would be encouraging anyone to choose "rent boy" as a career. Fingers crossed. :)

Huh. That's totally not what I was picturing on reading 'no cover'.

  • Sam F,

You'd have to ask Bronagh about that...

Which makes me think again of this:

...It is a year to the day since he won the election and we are in the Prime Minister’s office on the ninth floor of the Beehive; Key has redecorated to suit his own modest tastes – I complement him on the larger-than-life size portrait depicting Key and his wife Bronagh as Zeus and Leda. ‘Thanks,’ he replies. ‘Just don’t tell the Chief Censor.’

  • Rich Lock,

This thread has not so much headed for the gutter as charged for the sewage farm at full throttle:

David Cameron/Nick Clegg slashfic, John Key, Bronagh and Danyl Mclauchlan getting tangled up in it somehow, and Craig with no clothes off to one side acting as MC.

Time for the curtain and houselights before I get hit in the eye by a ping pong ball, I think.
