Those Clevedon Buffalo sausages are so incredibly nommy. Picked some up at the Clevedon farmers market a few weeks back, along with some of the best chorizo I’ve ever gobbled.
My chorizo tip: slice thinly, fry in olive oil with some fresh, thinly sliced mushrooms, serve on toast. Sunday morning breakfast of champions. Bacon butty ++.

Not strictly on topic I realise, but still food / drink related: the pathetic corporate bullying of small businesses by DB and Fonterra. Both have trademarked generic description terms and told small businesses to back off or they'll face costly legal action.
DB have trade-marked "Radler" and sued small Dunedin brewery Green Man for making a Radler beer. (Radler being a variety like lager, stout, etc). Just yesterday, Fonterra waved the big legal stick at a small Hawkes Bay (I think) cheesemaker over their use of the word "vintage".
In both cases it's the same as, say, McDonald's or Burger King trade-marking the word "cheese-burger" and not allowing your local takeaway to sell "cheese-burgers".
It is blatant corporate bullying and makes the likes of DB and Fonterra look like thugs.

manuka smoked eggs
Are those smoked raw eggs, which you then cook?
I've tried various things other than fish in my home smoker (mussels, cheese, mushrooms, chillies, garlic) .. but not eggs. What a concept.

Yeah, smoked raw. The shells go all black. I tried them at the Wellington show, and they were delicious. Bizarre, but delicious.

The buffalo yogurt (non-vanilla) turned into an amazing baba ganoush in the hands of my partner. The pain is it's bloody hard to find.

Have to say there is something mildly funny about Russell stuffing his back when lifting his loot bag, perhaps this could be used as a defination of gourmand as against gourmet
On the other hand stuffed backs are only funny when it involves someone else, they are serious, so look after your self Russell -

Russell, commiserations about the back. The perils of the middle-aged good life.
I'm so pleased Mr Smoked Eggs has made it to the big smoke and is getting rave reviews; I met him at the Dunedin market last year and was convinced he had a winner. Another Dunedin find was Brandy Snap ice-cream, from a small Dunedin outfit whose name I cannot remember. Does anyone know; pleeease?
And Street Chant: what lovely young people. Which leads me to a recent traumatic event, only tangentially related, but I must unload. A person I have known all my life visited recently. This person is a member of one of the most boring professions on earth, and although well-intentioned and caring and possessor of probably every virtue known to man and woman, is a little dull. And always has been. The person sat on my couch wearing ironed jeans and the classic Ramones tshirt tucked into jeans and ironed. I still can't stop thinking about that image. I was dumbstruck, it was appalling.

I like to think that Vanilla Buffalo Yoghurt is the underrated third album by a Midwest indie band you probably haven't heard of.
I'm thinking Strawberry Alarm Clock. Off topic somewhat, has anyone noticed the prevalence of the word 'Buffalo' in band names? The Buffalo Springfield, Grant Lee Buffalo, and more recently Avi Buffalo. Are big hairy cows innately rock 'n roll?

And this is something I really enjoy about the show, and markets in general. You can talk to people about something they've put their heart and soul into.

I've never understood the rationale behind that 'chicken in a tin" thing either - especially when on the TV advert the tins sprouted little chicken legs and danced around the place. It was like "Look at us, we're so processed and engineered we have ACTUAL LEGS on our tins".
Maybe they're appealing to the same market as those tins of macaroni cheese I see in the supermarket too (Really? tins of macaroni cheese? Dude, how hard is it to just make a cheese sauce?)
(and I looked for a YouTube clip of "Chicken on a Wire" by Export Lamb - food references everywhere - but unsurprisingly one does not exist. So you'll just have to hum along with it playing in my head)

I laughed long and hard when I read that. It's a sad day when one is made to feel guilty when attempting to buy some mild pain relief. Heaven forbid you try and get any flu medicine! Hope the back mends soon, there are few things more disheartening to the spirit than back pain...

The way they market it as "a great alternative to canned tuna" doesn't really make any sense to me. So it's ... fake fish?

Danielle, the last time I checked his site (just enter NZ manuka eggs in Google) there was the exciting note that they were working towards on-line sales…
I had the best scrambled eggs ever courtesy of my sil cooking up a dozen&a half* of the smoked eggs with a few leaves of tarragon from her herb-bed, and serving them on fat slices of toast accompanied by just-heated tomatoes….she’d got the eggs from the Dunedin Farmers’Market which is about the only place you can regularly get them (aside from going to Lawrence.)
*hey, there were five of us, including 2 large & terrifyingly hungry teenagers
