  • Craig Ranapia,

Sinister is perhaps a stretch, its just another form of government.

So is submitting to the autocratic overlordship of a brain in a jar -- can't say I find that terribly attractive either. :)

  • Steve Barnes,

Key, whom they seem to have placed genuine faith in to address their pet issues.
His approach of smiling and saying he'll consider the issue is dangerous if it gives people false hopes

John Key's attempt to be all things to all people has begun to lose it's shiny newness. What was it he promised, what was it that defined his campaign? One word "Better" they told us that we needed change and he could do "Better" they told us that Helen Clark was bad and he would be "Better". Well, he has proven to "His" people that he wasn't "Better" enough they want him to be more "Better"
Anyone see anything wrong with the logic here? Anyone see anything wrong with the grammar here?
Better is purely subjective, it can mean anything. Like the smile on Mr Key's face can mean "I am pleased to see you" or "I am about to remove your gonads" . He wasn't called the "smiling Assassin" for nothing.

  • Craig Ranapia,

when the same seals are broken and the votes are counted in front of the scrutineers.

As opposed to UN election monitors being kept out of the room by armed policemen? When will this creeping fascism end! :)

Anyone see anything wrong with the logic here? Anyone see anything wrong with the grammar here?

Can recall Helen Clark on the campaign trail a decade back promising to make things worse... For some strange reason, that not only doesn't go down well with the plebs but even I'm not cynical enough to think politicians are that malevolent. :)

  • dc_red,

He wasn't called the "smiling Assassin" for nothing.

I note with disappointment he's displayed precious little interest in assassinations lately. Despite the best efforts of the orange-hued member for Epsom, and the erratic member for Nelson, to gain his attention via general incompetence.

Although the smile remains, of course.

I, for one, welcome our Fascist Overlords. I am with you Colin Craig, I think you are totally right. Now about that $100.00, can you pay it directly into my account?.

Still not sure what they DID spend their $450k on...

Yulia doesn't come cheap these days.

To be fair, Colin Craig has always been quoted as saying "up to $450k".

If it's all his money, I don't really care* how much he has spent on it - just as I don't expect to have to explain to total strangers what I'm spending my money on.

The only reason for investigating further would be if there were other sources of funding who were somehow misusing funds in the cause of supporting this march. I don't think that has been suggested anywhere, but as no-one has really found out, we don't know for sure either way.

*(apart from my own sense of waste, and how much more useful it would have been to give that money to a couple of really well-run and effective community agencies working in the area of child abuse)

"These days"? I hate myself so much for wanting to make a Russian mail order bride joke right now.

I did think it odd that the "talent" selected for the march consisted of her and Ben Lummis. I understand Ben's association with the pro-punishment people, but I thought Yulia's image was being managed to be much more neutral to avoid harming her "brand".

Brilliant rallying cry at the start of the 3 News coverage RB linked to:

"Does the government listen to the voice of the people, or do they not? (pause for thought) I don't think they do."

Almost as odd as the juxtaposition of the national anthem and Dancing Queen as a pre-show warm up.

"Does the government listen to the voice of the people, or do they not? (pause for thought) I don't think they do."

When the vox populi is the kind of high pitched squealing that makes dogs gnaw off their own genitals in a vain attempt to make the pain go away, I don't think they can. John Key should be reaching for the Parental superpower of selective deafness right about... now!

  • Tom Semmens,

While I think Colin Craig is a misguided twit, I think sadly that his problem - parking his coyness on the day - has been a surfeit of honesty. He told us how much he was spending, what sort of crowd he thought would show up, and what he was aiming to achieve.

Good on him for his honesty, a right wing fundy with the courage to state his convictions and put his own money where his mouth is may be a fool, but he is a reasonably honest fool.

The problem is his mates like Baldock, McVicar and McCroskie have built their public lives on dishonest sophistry and trojan horse agendas. Do you think McVicar would have organised the PR for the march on Saturday with the honesty Colin Craig did? Would have McCroskie?

  • Steve Barnes,

An interesting fact about the symbology of Fascism is its use of the Fascio which, literally means a bunch of Fagots.
This bundle of sticks represent people standing together as one, the single stick is easily broken but bundled together they are strong.
This symbol has been used for both the left and right over time, from the Romans to the New Zealand Municipalities Co-operative Insurance Company Limited, later Civic Insurance. The Fascio adorns the old Municipal Buiding in Auckland City.

To be honest, if I said what I really thought about either of those men I would be inviting legal action.

Would it be inviting legal action to say that, in my opinion, both men have a rather unpleasant habit of letting "truthiness" trump simple, easily verifiable matters of fact when the latter is politically or strategically inconvenient?
