I heartily recommend the hard to find Peter Cook movie the Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer from 1970

  • Phil Lyth,

not an actual quote. but people talking about where the money came from

Didn't some intrepid soul discover that Focus on the Family / Family First / someone got funded biggish bucks from a US group? Did that come out via the Charities Commission?

Could more come out re the source/s of the $450k?

  • Andre Alessi,

Is it that the Demo-Crazys only know "As Advertised on TV" Music?. I wonder who else they asked?

Did Paul Holmes ever do a live gig? I mean, that'd be rather appropriate for the demographic in question.

Edit: I was Googling his CD to try and see the track listing, and came across this comment from a seller on Trademe: "CD in excellent conditon, an unwanted gift, played once. "

  • Matthew Poole,

Just curious, has anyone else started hunting through the Companies Office for background on Colin Craig? I'm waiting on the emailed results of a directors' register search as I type.

  • Idiot Savant,

Has any reporter ever questioned the "half a million" budget?

No. They're too busy investigating a bloody chicken.

  • Matthew Poole,

Assuming that he's the same Colin Graeme Craig who resides at 5 Triton Drive, Albany, he's the director of five active companies:
    1110716−Managers’ Apartments Limited
    526401−Shore Bins Limited
    1622321−Centurion Utilities Limited
    817427−Centurion Management Services Limited
    893043−Centurion House Limited

I'd say it's probably the correct person, with company names like those.

  • Idiot Savant,

This symbol has been used for both the left and right over time, from the Romans to the New Zealand Municipalities Co-operative Insurance Company Limited, later Civic Insurance. The Fascio adorns the old Municipal Buiding in Auckland City.

And we have them in our Parliament - IIRC they have some as wall decorations in the old Legislative Council chamber.

  • Brickley Paiste,

doubly so when the Prime Minister is of Jewish heritage.

But his mother was an atheist and so is he.

And that's where, I think, some risk to civil society lies. It's right and good to protest, but when public servants know they will cop it simply for taking seriously their responsibilities, and the Prime Minister is compared to Hitler, the wrong signals are being sent.

    Could you elaborate?

Do you know Angus wouldn't accept the job because he knows whackos are going to criticise him or is that conjecture? And even if it isn't conjecture, who cares? Shouldn't public servants cop it all the time from everyone? Craig's quote on Angus that you provided was actually pretty level, too.

    I did like this "comment"

John Key: I haven't had any advice on that but I'm pretty relaxed about it crossing the road.

I wonder which of those is a LACQ (loss attributing qualifying company) that will show a $450,000.00 loss against Tax next year?.

It's only $90k per company, if they're all LAQCs. But we'll never know, given that it's a criminal offence for IRD staff or any other person who's acting as the taxpayer's agent to disclose tax information except in specific circumstances relating to the operation of the tax or criminal justice systems.

  • Julian Melville,

So. At the same time that a few thousand confused angry people were steaming up Queen St, roughly the same number of people were packing out the athletics stadium at Mt Smart in order to hang out in the sunshine, play their ukuleles and have a nice day out.

That seems to have garnered only a 30 second spot at the end of the TV1 news and absolutely no coverage at all on NZH or Stuff (not counting the press releases from before the event). Not even a column from Tapu Misa about how minorities were particularly well represented and everybody had a good time.

I know which event I'd rather have been at. Fortunately, I was.

  • Craig Ranapia,

But his mother was an atheist and so is he.

Brickley: I don't really want to derail the thread into a definition-fu about who counts as a Jew and who is just Jew-ish, but could you grant that Ruth Key (nee Lazar) had pretty sound reasons to believe that the Anschluss Österreichs would ultimately prove to be fatally injurious to her health? The Nuremberg Laws -- and the deportation orders -- didn't draw distinctions between devout and secular.

Depends on which interview you look at it. But that's irrelevant. It's offensive and stupid political hyperbole from people who wouldn't know perspective if it bit them on the ass.

    Could you elaborate?

Do you know Angus wouldn't accept the job because he knows whackos are going to criticise him or is that conjecture? And even if it isn't conjecture, who cares?

If you're not just being disingenuous as usual, I presume you're not familiar with the degree of personal vilification endured by Kiro. The job is a long-term (five year, I think) appointment and yet Paula Bennett was obliged to appoint Angus to fill in for six months:

"I have decided to make an interim appointment to allow time to find the right permanent appointee for this important position," Ms Bennett said. "I am grateful that we have someone of Mr Angus' ability and standing available while we work to fill the role long-term."

They knew Kiro was leaving ages ago, but they're still "working" to find someone to take the job.

And now, Angus, the least provocative candidate you could imagine, is copping it -- although I presume he'll be spared the racist and sexist abuse.

Shouldn't public servants cop it all the time from everyone?

Uh, okay, if that's the world you want to live in. But, of course, you're really just trolling from the safety of your pseudonym.

To be honest, if I said what I really thought about either of those men I would be inviting legal action.

  • Rich of Observationz,

He needs to wake up and realise that 87.4 percent of New Zealander voters have enough common sense to know he is wrong

Maybe if Craig had been flogged at school every time he made a grammatical error, he'd be able to write correct English. It's "New Zealand voters" and "know that he is wrong".

  • Just thinking,

Centurian (various companies)- if that was me - my mates would all know it's about BattleStar Galactica.

He's setting himself up for the great fall from grace. Centurian (various companies), Christian standard bearer for pro-smacking, ... I'm assuming he's married?

The delicious part of course is his marginal political campaign for reduced representation.

I'm starting to think some folks weren't taking this whole "march for democracy" thing terribly seriously.
