Glad to see Yeah Nah at least gained an unintended mention. :-)
-
Speaking of being so over things, did anyone nominate "disruptive"?
-
So, I think I deserve some props for voting for metadata, fuckstrating, and selfie in that order.

Very meta column, Russell! ;-)

So, um, anyone got any good recommendations for a tinbum whisky neophyte?

Laphroaig FTW

Or a nice old Oban for something a little easier on the palate.

The online voting form didn't display in my version of Google Chrome and I didn't have the attention span to fire up another browser to check, just hit the refresh button today to see if it was fixed and found it was all over. Not worried about it, I don't think my choices would have made much difference to the overall results.
Have a great christmas season Russell and thanks for your hard work bringing us Public Address year after year. -
This Clynelish bottling seems an exceptional buy at $89.
Add on Adelphi's excellent Private Stock blend for $45 and you've got quite a lot of good whisky for your $34 top-up.

Just been given a bottle of Midleton by a very fine friend, which is, I gather, a seriously nice drop. Can't touch it yet, but I'm gazing at it lovingly and stroking its wooden box* :)
*this is not a euphemism! -
A good choice. Even though I still don't really know what it is.
But that was the easy part, now we need to vote on how to say this word.
Day-ta? Dar-ta? Datter? Depending on your choice of TV viewing, you can hear any of these.
PA needs to sort this out fast, or anarchy will prevail.

Just did an online submission on this bill. Intrigued to see the M word there on the right hand side column.

Would you consider a New Year contest for the best sentence that contains a minimum of 7 of the wonderful words?
Need new sponsors for a prize no doubt! Also for the whisky neophyte – The Singleton from Glen Ord is a smooth wee drop, and Oak aged Glenfiddich offers a different, almost velvety touch.

Whisky neophyte - Ardbeg will change your life.

That said, 'Wrecking Ball' just sounds like someone taking a shit.
Vile. "Wrecking Ball" is a great pop song. Miley knows how to do singles.

Yes. I heard Busy Signal's Royals rework in the car on Tuesday night (thanks Stinky Jim!) and just grinned as I drove for three solid minutes. Glad someone else loves it to bits too.

If you like celebrity endorsements, manly men Ron Swanson and Jack Donaghy both drink Lagavulin which I'm quite partial to.
Can second the Oban too. And I've had a couple of nice Auchentoshans.

I love Laphroaig, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it for a whisky neophyte?
Lagavulin was developed as a rip-off of Laphroaig, but is in fact smoother (and frequently cheaper) and probably easier to take as a beginner?
Interesting that of all the different regions and styles available for possible recommendation the three with more than one mention so far (the two above L's, and Oban) are all from the isle of Islay... where all the whisky's are made over fires fueled from peat and all have (to a greater or lesser degree) peaty / smokey flavours compared to most mainland malts...

Pete,
If you're a real neophyte start with a bottle of Pigs Nose blended then work your way up to single malts

Supposedly, in the 19th century, Lagavulin’s distiller sought to copy the Laphroiag style.
If that’s really what happened, I’m glad he failed, because (to take the bottlings we most commonly see) the Lagavulin 16 is a vastly better whisky than the Laphroaig 10.
I don’t want to offend anyone, but while Laphroaig tends to be the first single malt anyone can name, it’s nothing exceptional. I’ve tried less common bottlings of it and they all taste pretty much the same to me. I prefer the Ardbeg in the same style.
Also, Lagavulin’s definitely more expensive than Laphroaig. Whisky Galore currently has the former for $135 (quite a good price) and the latter for $97. (That said, Whisky & More had the Lagavulin 16 from its grey-market sources for $89 last week. I got some.)

No! Pig's Nose is soft, but it's nowhere near the Adelphi Private Stock blend for quality and costs $20 more.

We're going to have to differ on that. It just sounds elephantine to me.
