In Between 2002 and 2005 Anderton was 3rd in Cabinet and held major portfolios. Hide is outside Cabinet and about the only thing he could be said to have influenced is the Auckland govt reorganisation (which National was arguably going to do anyway). His local govt reform bill is significantly watered down. He ain't got jack.

Well that didn't work very well
Mana only gave 816 votes to Mat out of 22.000
Greens held their percentage but should have made some increase
Labour a fail, by- elections are meant to favour the opposition, not much sign of that here
