Not sure about anyone else but based on the 3 reports that were released yesterday there is zero accountability shown by Key, Collins or the Corrections department. Releasing 3 reports in a day like that is extremely cynical and the mark of an untrustworthy and lying government.
I'd prefer to have a PM I could trust. if I recall correctly the late Hunter S Thompson mentioned that Richard "Nixon was so crooked that he needed servants to help him screw his pants on"
I'm in deep despair about the lack of integrity in government. Ironically Key leaked the original info about the SIS briefing to call Goff a liar and now that it has been shown he lied and had the SIS lie on demand that is sick and not in a good way.

For those who have been busy today, here's the latest digest:
Key is asked a straight and short question in Parliament. Answers in precisely one word: "No".
It is then revealed that this answer was false, and since it consisted of only one word, even Key couldn't parse and pretend. He was caught.
So he now says 'no' means 'yes', whatever, it was the question's fault.
Unlike our Prime Minister, I am not making this up. Really.

Roger Lacey, in reply to
Yup. But it’s just a flesh wound to Key.

That need for a correction in Parliament is an interesting one. The question was whether Key had corresponded with Slater about the IGIS investigation/report. Key said “no” – then came back to Parliament to change/correct that to “yes” with the explanation that he had rec’d an unsolicited text from Slater, which he then acknowledged/responded to.
Point is yes, he had received a text from Cameron Slater.
And here’s the interesting bit… the PM noted during the period of the Rawshark email releases, that he had to change his phone number (which was annoying for him) as that number was partially revealed in one of the hackers releases. See the reporting here;
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/10460563/Dirty-Politics-latest-scalp-John-Keys-phone-number
So, sometime after September when the number was changed, Key (or someone else who has the PMs mobile number) gave Cameron Slater the number. I mean, how easy is it to get hold of the PMs mobile number? Do all media folk get it? If so, it seems a very lax sort of security to me.

The Herald reports Key discussed the Chisholm report. with Slater, Collins, discussed the Chisholm Report with Slater but Key bags Goff
Typical he only admits it after he was sprung. -

Goff being accused of leaking the report early
Goff DID leak the report early
Which has to rate as one of the stupidist actions I have ever seen from a politician - truly Brendon Horan level stupidity. FFS this is my damn electorate MP WTF was he thinking???
-
Rosemary McDonald, in reply to
Excuse my ignorance, but, was there some reason why the report in question was under embargo until a certain day at a certain time?
And yes, Goff happily spread the word far and wide it woud appear, while the triumvirate of Colins, Key and Slater at least had the 'intelligence' to keep their leaking between themselves.
A sort of coven of the incontinent....

mpledger, in reply to
But would you trust the government not to pull a fast one on the day the report that clears your name is released to the media? Goff got in early before the PMs office, via the blogs and colluding media, had a chance to obfuscate and diminish via multiple report dumping. And he got some pretty good stuff out.

"Labour Party tried to kill me" says blogger, in his text messages to John Key.
Come on Corin, Paddy and co, there's your story. Attempted murder by NZ opposition. Get the details and tell us all. Don't forget to cc the police.
Alternatively, maybe you could finally work out that this source for your stories is a little ... unreliable? To put it mildly.
In short, do your jobs. Not his.

Cameron Slater: [journalist] gave it away to me...Goff leaked SIS report
Prime Minister: It's a joke isn't it. They will attack Jason for talking to u and they break the confidentiality agreement. Classic lab.
Cameron Slater: Yup...I'm very angry over it...Goff is the one who leaked oravida stuff too.
Cameron Slater: They still have standard bloggers on staff
Cameron Slater: And Mccarten was involved in hack
Prime Minister: Hopefully it will all come out in time
Cameron Slater: I wish they would hurry up...they played the real dirty politics...even tried to kill me...I have evidence of.
Strange that a few hours later Key forgot that he had had this conversation. -
Rosemary McDonald, in reply to
What concerns me is that they seem to truly believe that their communique are confidential. That they can merrily text and email away and no one will ever know.
The rest of us accept that our electronic correspondence can be read by others....
Some of these people are running the country FSF.

And the PM changed his phone number in September…so he’s clearly thought it a good idea to tell Slater the new one!!!
Which, BTW, puts the use of “unsolicited” when describing the txts yesterday in an uncertain light!

Danyl has what there is to know about the weird allegedly-left-wing blogger at the centre of the text messages revelation, who is a real person playing a Whaleoil sock puppet.
Have we reached #peakcray? Who knows?

The conversation itself is quite strange.

On 'Nine to Noon', Katherine Ryan interviews Andrew Little, and seems to believe that playing 'devil's advocate' means accepting the absurd. As Hager has pointed out, this is how the liars win.
Say 2 + 2 = eggplant, not 4. Then wait for the interviewers to propose the mathematical qualities of eggplant. Any nonsense will do, it will be taken seriously, because ... "he said, she said, innit?"
But absent professional journalism, it works.

Has an unelected, clearly mentally unbalanced individual who has never held a a significant public office or credible public role ever had such an effect on a supposedly advanced first world democracy? What on earth possesses Key to keep talking to Slater? Why does our media continue to provide such a compulsive and delusional liar airtime? Why is it I am not sure if my last sentence applies to Slater, Key or both of them?
Anyway, to be serious for a second Slater’s paranoid delusions – thinking people are conspiring to kill you is usually the preserve of inmates of the secure wing of the Mason Clinic – is the stuff of mass shooters.
-
Labour screws up again, conspiring to kill Slater when everybody can tell at a glance he is one of the undead.
-
Rosemary McDonald, in reply to
A Freudian slip perhaps?
I did mean "for fucks sake"..but was trying to be polite.
@ Russell... The slightly left of centre blogger promoted by Tau Henare on Natrad the other afternoon?
Methinks we are all being worked.
Just when you thought te shit couldn't get any weirder.

A, Labour have the right to talk to media . Oravida is a personal issue with Collins taking advantage of her standing to influence an outcome. I'd be telling the media myself. and B, you'd be only angry if you support Collins whose hiding something. Does anyone get the impression that Collins is out to tarnish Key too. Paybacks are a bitch and hell hath no fury like a cold bucket of sick in ya face.

Well, I can think of Rasputin, and maybe the seer who warned Caesar about the Ides of March, but NZ doesn't really match Imperial Russia or Republican Rome on the first world democracy stakes at the moment.

Nah, we've only just reached the point of finding the cake saying "Eat Me". There's long chapters ahead before we get to the Queen of Hearts.

Rosemary McDonald, in reply to

Good question.
