  • Hadyn Green,

Just suppose Richie McCaw and Dan Carter got together - how many kiwis would still object to them adopting?

I would've thought Megan or Emma would've commented on this by now. Oh and I would object for the same reasons I objected to Madonna's African baby party.

Drop the bottom 4, and let them scrap to get back into the top if they're good enough.

Hey if Newcastle can handle relegation and Burnley can beat Man U, why not?

In fact it'd make this season even more interesting

  • LegBreak,

It would also make it like any other competition in the world with promotion / relegation.

It is NOT a radical idea.

Indeed, we'd merrily donate our infant manchilds to the happy couple.

    I'd donate EGGS.

(Sorry for the delay, I was pruning my roses.)

That is an image I think I'm stuck with for life now. That end game man touching is never gonna look the same. Yes I support them!

o and what I came to post about...that game! awesome. Dan Carter blew my mind. Then I read this...

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/opinion/2778613/All-Blacks-show-ticker-to-win-close-one

Dan Carter. The Returning One was, OK, not magnificent, but pretty damn good.

And really there was an element of luck about this All Blacks win. They just happened to get the right penalty at the right time.

Maybe I was watching another game but it seemed to be Carter bought us that penalty with a superb kick and some great support play...

and he was OK? not magnificent? Marc Hinton needs a couple more weeks of Stephen Donald.

And then won a crucial turnover in the last minute -- only to see his captain hand the bloody ball back. But mostly, the All Blacks were able to do something they've struggled with all season -- play the game in the opposition's half.

Having watched the game again, I'm inclined to think that the ABs actually played quite well, and with better luck would have won by more.

Yeah. When Donald came on he demonstrated rather vividly that for all that he seems to do the right thing, his kicking game just isn't that good.

  • Russell Brown,

Dear old Stephen Jones has had his usual wankfest in The Times:

And yet again, a major rugby match has been decided with a seemingly random refereeing decision in rugby’s nightmare area — the breakdown. New Zealand were showing signs of panic as they trailed in the dying moments but then Carter, who kicked magnificently, put in a wicked long kick to the corner. Drew Mitchell went back to gather, passed the ball to Lachie Turner out of a tackle and then Turner was submerged by opposition chasers. Indeed, the All Black tackler Isaac Ross lay on the Australian side of the ball after the tackle.

Turner clearly extended his hands to play the ball but it was difficult for him to clear it because of the prone New Zealand body. Amazingly, referee Jonathan Kaplan penalised the Wallaby wing for holding on and Carter kicked a nerveless penalty.

    And then ...

And any neutral observer would have noted that at no stage during this tournament has any of the three competing teams produced rugby of remotely the same quality and attacking bite as the Lions produced in South Africa on their recent tour.

Yes, that glorious test series victory the Lions won was a thing of wonder. Oh, hang on ...

  • giovanni tiso,

Some of us came back from the Cake Tin where the Lions squaked through by one point just in time to watch the All Blacks do the same. That was quite awesome.

Jones' sarcasm is so subtle you can hardly notice it's there.

  • LegBreak,

In an unintentional way Jones almost makes a good point.

I agree that a neutral observer would say that The Lions played the most enterprising rugby on show this year.

But, with the current rules, that’s not winning rugby.

Sorry, I couldn't comment. My head exploded.

What gets me is that the AB's win like the English team did in the early part of the decade (Which Jones still wanks on about occasionally), and he has a go at them for it. The Lions lose trying to play like the AB's did in 2003, and he praises them for it.

Someone remind me, was he so fond of the AB's style of rugby in 2003?

  • Simon Poole,

That'll learn me for not double-checking my tags too. Or previewing for that matter.
