"Get your fokkin' tentacle out of my face..."
-
Except for the trailers to horror movies, which seem to delight in spoiling the ending.
You mean there are actually trailers that don't reveal the ending?
-
oh come on people, we all know the most quotable movie of all time and for ever and ever is Spinal Tap.
it's as obvious as the difference between clever and stupid.
sheesh...
-
imdb - remembering quotes, so we don't have to?
-
Are you the Keymaster?
No, ma'am. We're musicians.
-
We used to play a little game on nerd sites where you tried to pick a movie from the quote, and it was worth fewer points the more quotes people needed to get it. So, for instance, you'd start with "Woah", and if nobody got it add "Your other left", then on to "There is no spoon", etc.

Easy: Dog Soldiers - the next quote would be "I love it when a posh bird talks dirty", right?
-
"You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"
In more recent times...
"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

1. "You egg!"
2. "We’re taking this bloody car to Invercargill, boy”
3. "Cook the man some fucking eggs!"
4. “I’ve only been Pakeha for one minute and already I hate you Maori”.
5. “I know what to do about mother”The first three I remembered, but the last two I found when checking the exact phrase for 'Invercargill' (I thought it was 'I'm') and found this*.
*Contains answers to above spot quiz ;-)
And the winner is;
“I’m a Derek, and Dereks don’t run” -
I think looking for quotable quotes in formula action movies is making things a bit hard. I can think of a few from Hellboy 2, though.
Industrable, my ass!
Sometimes lines are only funny when you and all your friends know them backwards and they become a shorthand for describing things in the real world.
Just about every Woody Allen movie is one quotable line after another.
Last night I was home alone in my apartment and I conjured up a threesome with me, Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren, and it was very very erotic. As a matter of fact if I'm not mistaken, it was the first time those two great actresses ever appeared in anything together. (Anything Else, 2003)
I don't think comparing Casablanca with Avatar is really apples with apples. Casablanca wasn't actually a blockbuster when it came out. It was a moody tearjerker that happened to be particularly well written and acted.
recordari, thanks for reminding me about Bad Taste!
And David, I agree In Bruges had many great one liners, sick and twisted though they were. -
It is the daughter's job to organise the cutlery for dinner.
Last night she had gotten to it by the time the soup was ready, and my wife intoned "There is no spoon", which my daughter found baffling.
Even more baffling when I added
"there is only zuul"
I have been known to quote "curse your sudden, yet inevitable, betrayal".
Does "DARK IN HERE, ISN'T IT?" count, since there has been a TV movie/ miniseries adaption? -
The headshot's the only true stopper, Barry.
It takes a knight to come up with dialogue like that.
-
I avoided Monty Python for years when all I'd heard was geeks saying stuff like "He's not the messiah!!! He's a very naughty boy!!!! lolz".
Ah yes -- that works mostly because Terry Jones just drags up with unholy relish. (I think it was John Cleese who once said that when Graham Chapman came out, he thought "but you're the one who really hates wearing women's clothes. You smoke a pipe. You play rugby." Ah more innocent days...)
-
“I’m a Derek, and Dereks don’t run”
My favourite PJ movie quote is still "I'm a New Zealand zoo official, and this monkey is going to Newtown".
-
Surely it's Pulp Fiction... Tarintino dialogue at it's best, the whole movies one big quote. "Example":
"It's the one that says BAD MOTHERFUCKER"
"Have to be one charmin' motherfuckn' pig"
"Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead"
"ENGLISH MOTHERFUCKER, DO YOU SPEAK IT?"
"A Royale with Cheese"
-
Just this morning, before 6am, I used the line "nobody puts baby in a corner".
I kind of hate myself now. But I can pretty much recite the words to Dirty Dancing.
-
"I've had it up to here with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!"

What do I win?And I think it's a generational thing. Most of the guys at work who are 10+ years younger than me have no problems quoting from films from the last 10 years.

Game over, man. Game OVER !

It's interesting seeing how the people with kids pick up the lines from the movies their kids love. The other day in a meeting, one of my coworkers came out with:
"Smile and wave, boys. Just smile and wave."
Half the meeting - the half with kids - got it, and laughed; the other half looked baffled.
For reference, "Kowalski! Give me options!" has become a catchphrase in our house.
-
"This is Sparta...!"
300 is a movie that had a ton of quotes. Originally I didn't like it, but I've come to appreciate it as a finely crafted piece of pulp - it's really rewarding to pull apart.
And the PG television edit of the trailer still makes me laugh:
-
"I wish I knew how to quit you."
-
Did anybody say Ghostbusters?
-
"I've had it up to here with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!"

What do I win?I just don't do anything that originally came out of the mouth of Samuel L. Jackson for one very simple reason. He's the coolest mofo'ing nigger in the universe. I'm not. :)

I think that most of the MP stuff just isn't very funny. Some is brilliant (dead parrot), but a lot doesn't travel well in time and space.

As can a huge section of the women I know between about 25 and 35. Generational thing?
