  • Alfie,

And here's what we're up against -- the latest Herald-DigiPoll shows mainly confusion and/or apathy. Sure, the sample size is only 750 but a staggering 45% of respondents still "don't know"? WTF?

  • Alfie,

Excuse me, but did Helen Clark really back John Key over the TPPA after meeting with him in New York today? Or am I missing something?

I would not trust Trevett to faithfully convey whatever was said.

  • Alfie,

I'm not so sure. Tracey Watkins is running the same Clark backs Key angle, including this quote from Andrew Little.

She's the former Prime Minister for nine years, so she's not going to lose interest in what happens in New Zealand - it's her home country.

Provided that the quotes weren't taken out of context, it strikes me that Helen Clark seems to have no idea of what's going on in NZ and has accidentally shot Little in the foot. That's sad.

"What always haunts one as the New Zealand Prime Minister is 'will there be a series of trade blocs you're not part of?'. Because that's unthinkable for New Zealand, an exporter and small trading nation. So of course New Zealand has to be in on the action with the TPP and go for the very best deal it can."

Prior to this she had quite rightly stated that originally this was an agreement between 4 nations....got a shit load more complicated now.

Watching the expressions and body language of Our Leaders past and present, I got the distinct impression that Helen was more comfortable with talking about this issue than Himself.

Who looked like he was in pain, his shoes or his pants too tight, maybe?

It would be interesting to ask HC how she would handle the current, and infinitely more complex negotiations. What her bottom lines would be...today.
