I will be looking out for mentions of social investment in the Budget today. Social Investment can be code for "we are too mean and individualistic to invest in schools and communities so we are going to target and stigmatise a small minority of individuals and families, and then expect them to gratefully raise themselves into the middle class, or punish them more if they don't". This is the 2017 version of the Thatcherite philosophy whereby there is no such thing as society..

Bang on the mark...but you forgot the whole "building resilience" line.....some of us are so resilient we no longer have any expectations of the disability support system.
A win!!!

The Government's plan to collect client level data has been delayed while bugs in the system are sorted out. Let's hope that's the end of it. I suspect that the damage to public confidence has already been done and that it will result in resistance to completing the Census next year.

Conformation from the PM's regular media conference today:
Prime Minister Bill English opened his press conference today by noting today's launch of the new Social Investment Agency Oranga Tangata. He said it's data-driven approach to seeing how well social spending succeeds would be rolled out to all Health, Education, and Welfare spending if a National government wins the election.

There is no evidence that that approach will provide that evidence. He's really driven by the ideology, though. I still say it is just modern eugenics. It's all about othering, surveillance and control.
There is a real difference this election between the targeting ideology of social investment and the social democratic approach of universalism.
