  • Southerly: Sir Roger Tipped As New…,

It's funny because it's true. Sigh.

Sadly, it is. What David wrote about has been ACT policy for some time.
See Having your kiwi and eating it too, a 2004 speech by then ACT MP Gerry Eckhoff:

If trade works for so-called exotic introduced species like sheep and cattle, why should it not work for indigenous species?

If a highly valued sheep or cattle beast is exported in comfort and security to some foreign clime to breed happily while increasing the gene pool in that country then whats the problem?

So why not the kea, kaka, kakapo or kiwi?

  • Hard News: Not so much ironic as outrageous,

I haven't followed the whole affair with detailed interest, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't S59 get ammended, not repealed? It still exists, doesn't it, just in a form that says that force for the purposes of correction is not allowed.

I keep hearing people (sometimes people who really should know what they're talking about) saying "since S59 was repealed..." and wondering if I've got it wrong or if they have.

You're entirely correct, Josh. Section 59 of the Crimes Act 1961 was amended, not repealed. Behold, the section in its current form.

  • Hard News: Monster Weekend,

    Re: Jesus Is A C**t.
AAARRGGH! Pressed post instead of preview!

As a reformed goth I'm guessing that the 18-year old female in question was wearing a t-shirt honouring the terrible goth-metal/unintentional comedy act Cradle of Filth - 'Jesus Is A C**t' is a slogan of theirs.

the shirt could just be a 'god is a woman' kind of thing.

The band's intentions in using 'Jesus Is A C**t' are probably more to do with getting publicity from outraged Christians than questioning the sex of JC, but who knows what their fans' intentions are?

If anyone wants to sample some Cradle of Filth, take a look at the for their song 'Nymphetamine'. Dunno if it's a tribute to Spinal tap's 'Intravenous De Milo'.

    In response to Tom's question:

Revolutionary Anarchists and Nostalgic Aristocratic types have a lot in common - they both hate universal suffrage.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

David Icke fans sure are hilarious. My favourite bit is on the indymedia post is where the anonymous arch-nemesis of masonic illumaniti reptilian shapeshifters tells his/her opponent to look past Icke's crazy ideas and concentrate on the good ones.

On a non-reptilian shapeshifter note, I can't help noticing that some of the PA bloggers have been a bit quiet of late. Come back cuzzies! Are they in hibernation or something?

  • Speaker: Not quite what you may think,

I agree with Stephen. Hopefully some of the hysterical commentary surrounding the recent events will be toned down in the wake of this piece. Graeme's article is what we need more of - the explanation of technical details in a way accessible to the lay reader. Well done.

  • Random Play: Diana of Wails: The…,

I'm not quite sure how I found out about Di's untimely demise. I seem to recall an interruption to Sunday afternoon programming, followed by confirmation in the 6pm news that she was dead. If it meant anything to me I would have a better recollection.

Although, I remember seeing the TV coverage of the huge pile of flowers deposited outside Buckingham Palace, and wondering why.

Would be interesting to here from any PAers in London at the time, and from some of Di's many fans.

  • Hard News: Brimful on the 45,

My family's first computer was an Apple IIe, bought in 1990 or so. It came with a stonking 64k of RAM (later upgraded to 128k).

I really don't miss dot matrix printers.

Interesting comparison between the treatment of Fay & Richwhite's insider trading settlement and Millie Elder's woes. Which of these two things has affected people more?
