  • Indiana Jonesing,

Remember when...Obama wasn't black enough and Hillary Clinton was polling at least even with African Americans?

Combination of Rev. Wright + Bill Clinton's crassness seems to have changed that.

Jeez. I feel like I'm lining up with Damian for six of the best and I wasn't even at school that day.

    See? QED.

    :-)

  • Hard News: Track to the Future,

Craig, you may find this "interview" with Prebble more palatable.

    I was making a funny

    No shit.

I remember Russell once comparing his own "earnest" sto Slack's "clever".

Sorry to say I err on the earnest. Would like to be "clever" but marbles were in short supply round about '66.

relevant in this day and age of instant teleportation.

By this logic we should abandon any kind of tax payer investment in roads. All it is doing is tying us to the tyranny of 19th century engineering.

How big a personal tax cut do you expect for $600million, by the way?

  • Hard News: Track to the Future,

According to Prebs the Government should have said to Toll "you fix it".

There we go, that's the economic genius of the guy. Same man I once heard on National radio describing Wayne Idor as a credible source.

  • Hard News: Track to the Future,

If I were the Government I would reinstate small scale passenger services to Napier, Rotorua, Dunedin and Invercargill...before the next election.

Other than being "a good thing" in its own right, the political mileage of MPs riding the tracks would be great.

Cullen knew the value of the asset he was purchasing. They have also bought a running business which has some residual value. If there is one thing people don't accuse him of it is being thick and not able to cut reasonable deals.

I would sit this one out before reaching for the invective bucket.

  • Hard News: Track to the Future,

    From RS:

Lessig is also known as a digital communist

    .

    Welcome to the revolution, brother.

That being said, the fact the Lessig is writing Obama's technology policy, whilst Gates is reputably with the Clintons puts me very firmly in the Obama camp (not that I have or want a say).

Clinton really does look like Ancien Régime material.

  • OnPoint: Relationship Status: It's complicated,

What's to stop the Chinese student replying, 'Well, it seemed to work pretty well for your ancestors coming to New Zealand in the 19th century, didn't it?'

(The counter-argument would be that they brought parliamentary democracy with them. The counter-counter argument is that they also brought Peter Brown)

Well no. The counter argument would be, "WTF, I thought you guys have been railing against Western imperialism for over 100 years. Was that point all a big mistake?"

Would it be impolite, Tze, to ask for a translation of that blog you linked to?

The only message that rallies like last week's send is: "We are upset."

But when a super power becomes upset what then? That was the more chilling message and I am sure the Chinese Government and many of those involved in the rallies knew they were sending it.

I wonder how Taiwan, let alone Tibet, feels right now?
