Nick, your comment seems to have escaped notice.

I have seen the Holocaust misused often for petty unsubstantial political agendas, right and left ... but the complaint you make against Laws is real and serious. Frankly, the guy should be off radio and print for that shit. It's outrageous.

but Laws appears to have done a reasonable job making that city vibrant again

No, that happened before Laws. I don't think he can take credit for the main street clean up, the museum, the art gallery, Ucol or even the Rutland Arms.

All I have seen from Laws are sneering attempts to dismantle any "vibrancy".

(and I mean that in all earnestness)

Oh God. I have only just realised the humour in that statement. Thanks Andrew Ll for pointing it out. Sigh.

  • Hard News: A night on the town with Mr Slack,

    Congratulations PA. Well deserved, again.

Thanks David, but I think credit goes to online editors of all these sites (stuff, NZH, Scoop) who frankly do an amazing job in an industry that is only *just* being recognised.

    Must. Do. Some. Work.

Are freelancers like musicians and software developers...more and more competing with "free" rather than (or as well as) rapacious owners?

PA model is obviously an attempt to address that issue.

Crosby / Textor? Whose little elfs will be coming to a blog land near you soon.

The makers of AIT 'highlighted the bits they wanted you to see' just as much as the makers of GDWS did, as evidenced by the fact that details of the former are winding their way through the US judicial system.

Again, I call bullshit. The Swindle guy was an out and out lier. The only reason Al Gore's documentary is winding its way through the judicial system is that it was damned inconvenient for many people and there are deep pockets wanting to discredit it in anyway they can. To presume that the courts are a sensible place to "prove" science is crazy.

And yeah, not everyone on PA is a Mr. Bean fan.

And while I am by no means citing this documentary as a) being the be-all and end-all on the subject, or b) being completely clear, concise, factual and trustworthy, it is on the same level as Gore's An Inconweenient Truth in that it makes the information it wants you hear sound very palatable indeed.

They two documentaries are nowhere near equivalent. The fact you can't even be bothered to spell Gore's film correctly speaks volumes.

The maker of the GDWS lied, pure and simple. Just ask some of the folks that "participated" in the documentary. Trying to make this an equivalent of Al Gore's film is just as dishonest as Durkin was.

Don't, however, let that get in the way of good argument and good facts. All in short supply in this climate debate.

This simply isn't true. The science is clear, if complex. So are the economics. The facts are out there and have been for nearly 20 years (when did Bill Clinton first agree to cut emissions to 1991 levels? Answer, 1993).

The only people muddying the waters are self interest groups such as the Heartland folks.
