  • Field Theory: Zombies with Wheels,

I hated Shaun of the Dead. But, Zombieland looks like it'll be awesome

I liked Shaun of the Dead. However, Zombieland is indeed awesome for mine.

  • MMP: This Time It's Binding,

    George spake:

Under FPP, every vote that is not in a marginal seat that year is a wasted vote. There is no other way to describe it.

When I first started voting it was under FPP. I was in an electorate where the MP enjoyed a huge majority. Essentially anyone their party put up was a shoo-in, regardless of talent or personality. To me voting in an election quickly became fairly pointless; the incumbent always won, the nearest rival always lost by a substantial margin. Given the area I was in change to that was very unlikely. MMP seemed to offer a reason to bother turning up to vote; with the party option my voting wasn't immediately a waste of time.

  • Hard News: I'd just like to thank ...,

    @David Ritchie

Was Ray Columbus and the Invaders' "She's A Mod" actually a cover?

(Apologies, as I still don't know how to embed). Apparently it was originally by The Senators. The video below is of the Invaders, but the music you hear is The Senators.

    Some info here:

    THE SENATORS
    She's A Mod
    (Terry Beale)
    UK 1964
    Original version

    Single on Dial label.

She's A Mod was written by The Senators' lead singer Terry Beale.

The Senators were a band from Birmingham whose line-up included future Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham.

  • Hard News: The new wave,

Somewhat amusing (and/or worrying) exchange earlier on between Morning Report's Geoff Robinson and a Samoan correspondent (I didn't catch his name or where he was, Western Samoa?).

Robinson asked if everyone had moved to higher ground. Yes, replied the correspondent, except for him as he had to stay to report on what was happening...(at which point Robinson said he hoped the correspondent would move if he did see/hear anything of concern...)

And Bevan, I have to apologise but I've just heard from Pirate City that they are selling tickets through www.undertheradar.co.nz including a $40 season pass.

Thanks very much for the extra info Simon.

Currently, the only way to watch it is to buy a ticket – Pirate City are just kicking off their season, and as Hadyn mentions Richter City are selling tickets for their second bout now, so you should definitely check it out.

Brilliant! Ta very much for that.

TV3's sports news did a bit some time last week (or the week before?) on the Roller Derby. Even explained the jammers bit. I saw it and thought - "Field Theory had this ages ago" (or something to that effect). Pity it is not on TV regularly. Unless it is?

  • Up Front: The Up Front Guide to Parenting,

    George:

I'm just about to complete a Masters in Unemployability (History)

    Danielle:

George, I'd like to be the first to welcome you to librarianship (me)

Quite. I once worked in a science library where three of the five permanent staff had this same degree (including me). At one point I was sorely tempted to cross the road to the old History department and amend its career path poster accordingly.

Ah! A Haunting We Will Go and Count Homogenised! Brings back memories. Thanks very much for putting it up. Kevin Wilson as the Major is perhaps better known latterly as Goldstein's boss in the ASB ads.

  • Hard News: New Zealand Weekend Television,

Possibly the only sane response to that sort of "news content" I've seen for months.

Not the first time Hilary has drawn the short straw.

    Hilary Barry on air snort

(sorry, don't know how to do the embed thing - someone feel free to do so)

I saw it at the time and thought it was quite endearing - and a reasonable response to the story.
