Tamsin - I got that same weird letter - I swear John Key wasn't hiding in my cellar - I think they'd outsourced writing that one to some nigerian spammer

    Hopefully the link works.

  • Island Life: What I saw at the product launch,

For the benefit of non-Aucklanders, can you please elaborate on what Soul Bar is and what Casablanca was ?

Or for the benefit of some of those living in Auckland for that matter...

Last time the Maori Party were "the last cab off the rank".

This time round Tariana Turia is in the middle of being interviewed on TV3 last night when the camera cuts suddenly to go to Corporate Cabs leaving Key's house...

  • Hard News: Prospects,

I thought the National election tactic in Auckland Central yesterday was interesting - send a car (no signage on it) down Alfred Street at the University of Auckland with a passenger with loud hailer saying "Remember to vote National on Saturday!"

Given that Alfred Street is designated Pedestrian except for buses and official vehicles (couriers delivering stuff, Uni vehicles), and given it was a done a half-hour after afternoon exams had started(!) I thought this was an odd thing to do to get support. I vaguely wondered if it was someone else masquerading as National and annoying people to put them off that party (thinking no-one would be stupid enough to use a loud hailer while people were sitting exams).

The Greens were at Alfred Street during morning exams today with a street performance of people in Sumo suits wearing red and blue belts and wrestling (or falling over). They were quieter at least.

  • Hard News: Proud Wednesday,

NZ On Screen, the living archive of New Zealand television and film that I've been on the trust board of for nearly year. It's a non-profit, public good project funded by NZ On Air

In a word - brilliant! Things I haven't seen for years (Spot On! Nice One Stu!). Great effort and please keep it up. Thanks to all involved for making this available.

  • Hard News: Entertainment news,

Speaking of made up MPs (the Pretender), dunno if you caught Sunday's Mediawatch, Russell, but you were namechecked a couple of times in that regard. It mentioned a piece by the Herald's John Drinnan on blogs that said you were on message with Labour and that you'd probably get offered a place on the Labour list for next election (although I cannot find the Drinnan piece online). However, Mediawatch said you were already spoken for, and played a news item from the previous Monday on National Radio that spoke of "Green MP Russell Brown" (intending Russel Norman). It's in the last five minutes of the show's podcast/mp3.

  • Radiation: Some light on Friday,

I know that the set design of 3 News has to be the opposite of TV1's, but the new glass-and-steel gymnasium look is a bit cold don't you think?

My initial response on the weekend was "you can see legs". I had occasionally wondered if they just had casual wear trousers/shorts (since you only saw their top halves). Perhaps they did and now they can't anymore?

And TV3 seemed to have stopped the presenter switcheroo they used to do a year or so ago on the weekend. After the weather they'd come back and the male / female presenters had changed seats. It seemed to happen fairly consistently, but only on Sundays(?). A friend of mine had a theory that they swapped as one seat was nearer the Exit door and one of them had a bus to catch...

Bah. The internet does not like me.

Well, my online ticket buying usually goes VERY badly for some reason (ok, generally my impatience), so this was an exception for me.

  • Field Theory: Let's make some noise,

Did anyone manage to buy Warriors tickets online via Ticketek this morning?

Yes, I did get straight in but didn't like the Best available on offer, so waited, eventually got back in (by which time I was beginning to regret not taking the best available) and got where I wanted. Scalpers are already on trademe it seems (see Herald site, which I can't figure out how to link to). I checked Prime TV's listings on Saturday which showed the delayed Warriors game at 9.30pm. I had the option of radio sports live broadcast from 6pm. Hummed and harred about going with radio - I never quite get where they are on the field but that's just me - but eventually gave in and caught last ten minutes of first half and all of second half on radio before sitting down to watch it on Prime a few hours later.
