  • Hard News: The Sunday Capers,

Tom - Someone has pointed out to all the outraged commenters that they're doing a hottest businessman article tomorrow, so therefore it's FAIR and we PC whingers should just get a life.

I'm going to hide in Public Address until I can find a better source of news.

  • Hard News: The Sunday Capers,

Unfortunately, the Monday papers aren't any better.

There's an article on Stuff - in the "Business Day" section, no less - about who is NZ's hottest business woman.

    Unbelievable.

  • Up Front: Romeo Smells of Roses,

I think what irritated me the most was that the TCol staff wouldn't even entertain the idea that some parents would be happy for their kids to learn about it.

I ended up teaching for a year in a small-town Catholic primary school. We all learned some pretty crazy stuff!

  • Up Front: Romeo Smells of Roses,

The world needs to hear it. So go ahead, I beg you, fuel up the rantmobile and take us for a spin.

    Well... while Emma's unleashing hers...

For a teachers' college assignment, I proposed a unit on witches - how they're portrayed in literature, media, movies, etc. And reading accounts from various sources about what witchcraft involves and how people accused of witchcraft were valued or prosecuted throughout history... Nothing too gory, although the kids would have loved that part of it.

I was sternly reprimanded. Basically, they said that parents/schools would never allow kids to explore witchcraft in such a way, that it was either green-faced, warted hags who cook you in a pot, or nothing.

I left teaching pretty soon after graduating.

Kyle, I don't think you quite understand the rules... But we thank you for playing :)

So that toaster-oven thing was only for lesbians? Damn.

And so 1982! We've moved on, you know. Ipods are the new toaster oven. :)

  • Hard News: Dear Prudence,

We just left Genesis and nobody called, nobody showed up, nothing. No tears, no goodbyes, we just got a final reading. I feel a little offended now to be honest.

Be grateful, my friend. We switched because Genesis couldn't send us an accurate (or timely) bill, and after 13 phone calls to them we were kinda sick of it. They have since sent us three teatowels, each one welcoming us to the 'hood and asking us to call them to connect our gas and power.

  • Up Front: Also, The Rain Isn't Gone,

I've worn glasses since I was 7, so now the only people who knew my face pre-specs are my parents. I tried contact lenses, but when you weigh them up against the extra five minutes in bed in the morning... well, no contest. Now my face looks, to me, weird and naked without glasses, and I feel incredibly vulnerable, unarmed.

I used to worry so much about getting the "Which is clearer - the red or the green?" question wrong! What if I think it's red, but actually the green is less blurred. What if I get it wrong?! Like I was going to get a 'C' grade from the optometrist and mum would make me do more study or something...

  • Up Front: The Up Front Guide – How to…,

Really interesting post, Emma. But I'm afraid it has been so well 'jacked by Stuart Coates and the house decorated by six-year-olds on opium that I can't even remember what it was about.

  • Up Front: Isn't It Romantic?,

Sayana, jeez. I'm trying to make the romance-novel- readers feel better! You: not helping. :)

Don't worry Danielle. My mum's a librarian, and from what I've heard, people take out much funnier/stranger/disturbing books than romance novels.
