I'd really like to see NZ Cricket take the Twenty20 comp and not use the 6 districts they use for the other cricket.

It would be cool if they could get 10 provinces / regions into a league, and then play 2-3 games / week. Comp could be done in a month just about, or a bit longer if you did home & away.

Anyway, im trying to figure out how I can go to the ODI on Friday, damned work might get in the way.

heh, just read the Australian article too -

"David Hussey has not passed 50 since the first game against South Africa and was unlucky to be given out caught tickling a delivery down leg yesterday. "

So, if he was tickling it, then he must have hit it & if he hit it & was caught out, how exactly is that unlucky?

There was another bit involving Broom after he completed the run out where the commentators were basically revealing their lack of knowledge of NZ cricket.

I forget who, but one of them was suggesting that the stance & throw of Broom's runout indicated that the Blackcaps might have had some training from someone involved in Baseball.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but haven't we had that training happening for over a year now?

  • Field Theory: They're talking to you,

But having it on pay TV means that they can televise all 5 days of a test with no interruptions for the news or whatever else. Though I guess its not like TV1 has much worthy television playing during the day anyway, so maybe for home games it would work; however for any away tests it would be awful.

  • Hard News: The Flashing Question Mark,

While I haven't used Time Machine to rescue a dying hard drive, I did use it when I recently bought a new drive for my lappy & had to reinstall everything.

Quickest and simplest migration I have ever done. I just told it that I wanted it to back up my documents & my apps. Took about an hour or so to do.

Then swapped the drives in the lappy, started the OS X installer and part way through it asked if I wanted to restore things from a Time Machine backup.

About an hour and a half later tops my computer was back exactly as I remembered it, albeit with an extra 200 gb of free space.

  • Field Theory: The Return,

I'm not going to go there on flakey field-goals vs. those forwards in close getting over the line. I'd have hung on to the ball too. Maybe even for longer.

I don't mind going there; though my memory of the actual stats is getting fuzzy seeing as I read the IRB report ages ago. Anyway, Im pretty sure during the playoffs only 1/11 drop goals were successful.

The stats of that game are absolutely incredible - especially rucks & mauls. The ABs basically set a world record which is hard to imagine ever being beaten given that it was double normal amounts.

The ABs lost that game due to the French ability to stifle their attack & offload ball without getting penalised. Even with the forward pass, and McAllister's sin-binning which people question it was the lack of penalties that meant the French won.

Its rediculous to crucify coaches & players for that game.

  • Field Theory: Out-yelled by Children,

I always wondered what had come first, the Lions nickname, or the (back in the day & maybe not now) Lion Breweries sponsorship.

I recall there being some controversy when it wasn't Lion Brown on the strip anymore, so maybe its a different sponsor now and the Lion's thing had already come into play.

I know Hawke's Bay has been the Magpies since or before the Ranfurly Shield glory days; but its more explainable given the colour of their hoops.

  • Hard News: Consumer,

MMS still confuses the hell out of me; despite what's been written here and that which I read on Wikipedia.

I get the feeling that MMS doesn't work out the same across all devices / networks - is that accurate?

Im still not anti the iPhone however, when I can afford to I will probably buy it outright but only have a normal plan (no mobile data). And given how little I use my current cellphone anyway, it'll just be a fun ipod / gaming toy :-)

  • Hard News: Consumer,

FM radio in an mp3 player? What would be the point?

When you're complaining about the cost of the iPhone please compare it to the cost of Blackberrys and high-range Nokia's because its not that much more expensive, and I would argue has more features - crappy camera or not.

Its a great (but smallish) iPod, and has the potential to rival the PSP or DS for gaming. Plus if you use it in a wifi hotspot who cares about Vodafone's 3g data pricing?!?!

  • Hard News: Consumer,

Actually, I believe the total cost of ownership of an Apple computer is less than the equivalent performing Windows based machine. If I weren't at work i'd do some research to back that up.

Im thinking once I get my iPhone that i'll just get a cheap you choose then mobile data combo - I think it pans out to being the best value over 2 years even with the extra cost up front.
