I agree with Deborah (and Craig) - political satire is an excellent thing, but name-calling hardly qualifies.
Speaking of which, here is an interview with the excellent Garry Trudeau on the occasion of 40 years of Doonesbury. -
It may be apocryphal, but apparently an Aussie nurse once said:

The dispute was never about just wanting to "talk"
That seems to be news to AE members: (from the story that Blake linked to above):
Among them was actress Sara Wiseman who, despite supporting the union, said film workers never wanted the debate to get so out of hand.
"What upsets me is that all we asked for was a meeting to discuss the terms and conditions like any employer should do with their employee on any job. I don't understand how it go to this," said Wiseman.

Oh please - it's not like most PA readers are anti-union per se. -
but I remain unconvinced that only one side has been dicked with here.
As far as the handling of the lifting of the boycott goes, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not black and white.
But looking at the whole situation, seems to me that the studio have shown considerably more good faith than the unions. -

That's not quite what I said, Alan.
I take the point that there are conflicting versions of events here and only one of them can be right, but you could forgive Warners for being dubious about Equity/MEAA's assurance that 'the dispute was over' after so many weeks of being dicked around. -
Hear hear. One or the other is not telling the truth and I'd like to see evidence either way. It would say a lot about either side of this dispute.
Well, I guess. It will probably say quite a lot about the level of exasperation of Warners towards Equity and co by that late stage in the piece.

It just seems to look worse and worse for NZAE. Warners are squarely blaming them:
It was not until last night that we received confirmation of the retraction from SAG, NZ Equity and AFTRA through press reports," Ms McDonough said.
While we have been attempting to receive an unconditional retraction of the improper 'Do Not Work Orders' for almost a month, NZ Equity/MEAA continued to demand, as a condition of the retractions, that we participate in union negotiations with the independent contractor performers, which negotiations are illegal in the opinion of the New Zealand Attorney General.
"We have refused to do so, and will continue to refuse to do so."
I thought John Campbell let Robyn M and Tandi Wright off the hook a bit easily last night - they kept saying that they were only trying to have a civilised discussion about terms and conditions and what was so unreasonable about that? If the actors believe it is about coffee breaks then they are wayyy out of their depth. Global boycott, uncertainty, costly delays etc.
