  • Radiation: Television hell,

But what I'd really like to ask her was whether I'm the only one who thinks her departure from Law and Order was the weirdest television outing ever.

Well, it was sudden, but the only thing weird about it was the off-hand, casual way it was slam dunked into the final scene! I must check back issues of Lesbian Times to see if the actor is gay herself. Maybe this was some sort of personal statement she wanted to make as her swansong? According to Wiki she was engaged to a man for two years (but never married) and seemingly prefers to ride horses four times a week.

Oh, and am I the only person who thinks Radiation is the weirdest blog ever on PAS? I mean really, it's Wednesday so here are the Wednesday listing highlights? Is this some sort of quota fulfilment in order to keep the free MySKY Fiona??

    ;-)

  • Hard News: He might be crazy, but he's…,

On the subject of scenic NZ stuff, this might stir a few memories:

Sure does Rob! That's John Hanlon (__Damn the Dam__) singing right? Is this clip from Off The Edge? Playing at a suburban cinema near you every few months during the late 70's.

What amazes me the most is how it's been carefully filmed to make New Zealand look almost completely uninhabited

SOP Robyn, just like how all those travel mags and TV shows always seem to show a near empty resort with just a few good-looking young folk lounging luxuriously on deck chairs.
And yet when you get to the resort there are 200+ people in the pool area alone, and all the deck chairs were taken by 9am. Usually by a loud mouth Australian family (if travelling in Sth Pacific or Sth East Asia) or some boorish Germans (if in Europe).

I think I could find about 300 people I'd put on a list before I got to Steve Gilpin

Aw, c'mon Simon. If there was no Mi-Sex there would have have been no Flight X7.

  • Yellow Peril: My patch: Chinese whispers…,

I'll get my 2¢ worth in, before talkback radio 'steals my thunder' ...

Murder, coming to a street near Xue.

Sorry, I couldn't resist a Jackie Chan moment.

Hmmm, maybe you better see someone about that. My humour is as black as OJ's butt, but your little zinger is inappropriate.

Something that isn't a joke which should be considering the body was found in a car parked in Keystone St, has been the appallingly slow and insouciant attitude of the police to this tragedy.

They are either covering up their mistakes or simply don't care about 'Chinese' people.

I think you're reaching too far with the latter, but crikey, the body was in the car outside the house the whole time and they were waiting for a warrant? Maybe I've been watching too many cop shows but I really thought they would have moved faster than this. Sure, no-one wants the cops to have carte blanche to go around kicking down doors and busting heads, but surely there must be some 'imminent threat' or emergency protocol that lets them act faster when necessary? They were on the case by Monday morning, and it's only Wednesday afternoon they find the body? (In the car outside the house!!)

I think it is a bit premature to blame the police at this stage.

Yes it is, but crikey it looks bad. The aussie media will have a field day with 'Kiwi Keystone Kops'. Mind you, 3 News reported tonite that the LAPD said they'd heard nothing about the search from Aussie police.

The police claim that delays in getting a search warrant were one of the reasons for the time elapsed before opening the car boot.

I'd like to know more about these 'delays'. As has already been noted:

Well what if the poor woman was unconscious when she was put in there? If the stink hadn't attracted their attention by last night you'd have to think that she may have been alive in that car for a while.

Yup - there'll be BIG trouble if an autopsy reveals she died in the boot. Something they don't show/tell you on CSI is that the bowels 'evacuate' after death ...

  • Emmy's Awarded,

and for those that missed this link in Radiation:

(scroll down for...) Best Acceptance Speech Ever

"A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus. Can you believe this shit? Hell has frozen over. Suck it, Jesus, this award is my god now." -- Kathy Griffin, accepting an Emmy award for her show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.

Reportedly, the show will be censored to edit out part or all of Griffin's acceptance speech after protests by Catholic League windbag, Bill Donohue.

  • Emmy's Awarded,

The Sopranos took top drama honours, with 30 Rock taking comedy - TV3, answers, please...

TV3 gave their answer in their 3News report. They acknowledged the win but said it was a ratings bomb when it screened in NZ. Without acknowledging it screened on 3.

Maybe a different result in a different timeslot?

Now that guy is old rock star crazy, although he does make a good point about hoodies.

He also makes good points about Space Exploration and Boredom. I heartily recommend Ben's link (bottom of page 1).

As for Jordan being the inaugural inductee into the NZ Music Hall Of Fame...

definitely a worthy candidate. and deserving of the accolade.

    but...

were there no artists pre-80's deserving of recognition?
(or was this a __songwriting accolade?)__

Corben Simpson and Geoff Murphy had come to APRA to request a change to the writing credit on Blerta's 'Dance All Around the World', which still earns rights money. In the middle of the song, there is a poem by Margaret Mahy.

It's a little more than that. There's hardly a line in the song that isn't lifted directly from MM's picturebook "The Procession." But hey, that was almost the 60s, and noone really cared.
    Nice gesture though.

    and...

You're scholars and gentlemen, Messers Simpson and Murphy and it couldn't have happened to a nicer lady.

Hmmmm, I'm not sure if we should be throwing a parade for those guys finally acknowledging the undeniable. It rankled with Mahy from the beginning but she was always too nice about it.

If it happened today the lawyers would be exchanging emails by close of business!

I've found it amusing how my "quiet Mt Roskill street" has miraculously moved suburbs and is now in Three Kings according to the Herald today.

That's to fill the void left when the Real Estate agents moved
3 Kings into Mt Eden ...
