  • Legal Beagle: Asking the next question,

The Maori Party is radical free, now that Hone has left. Only respectable Maori leaders in it nowadays.

Define 'respectable'. Perhaps a leader who did not lead the illegal occupation of public property to advance a claim before the Waitangi Tribunal, like Tariana Turia? I imagine she is still (rightly) proud of what she and Whanganui iwi achieved at Moutoa Gardens/Pakaitore.

A bit of broetherly love. And I could never understand why the 'guest' is playing a guitar tuned to a chord, when the chords couldn't be simpler.

the World XV in the second test was Yoshida, don't know anything else about him. Interesting squad for the World team.

All three tests played in a week, I didn't remember that.

  • Legal Beagle: Hidden in plain sight,

    Graham, a few typos/questions:

In your section The abolition of the distinction between the summary and indictable jurisdiction your first para ends somewhere it doesn't intend to I think.

And on the law society submission you say it certainly was all mine (or even mostly mine) I presume that's 'wasn't all mine'?

Minor stuff, but an enlightening post, a lot to take in for us non-lawyers.

  • Field Theory: Hospital Pass,

It is disappointing that the games have to be moved, but I'd rather that than money diverted from human beings to get the stadium and associated infrastrucutre ready for the World Cup.

I imagine that the NZRU would have preferred to have all the knockout games in Auckland if they figured they could get away with it, so they lept at the chance to move those to games to Eden Park.

Their only revenue from RWC is gate money, so they are looking at an extra 25,000 seats per match and maybe $10m by moving the games to Auckland. The new Otago Stadium will apparently have 30,000 seats at a push, 8k fewer than AMI. Waikato Stadium has about the same capacity. At $200 a ticket (TV's figure) Dunedin & Hamilton would cost the Union $3m +.

The group matches I'm sure could stay in the South Island, though matches involving England will likely gravitate to the larger stadia, in the interests of money.

The govt has tried to soften the blow by suggesting Cantabrians will be offered travel & accommodation packages that will be subsidised by the taxpayer, and I believe the NZRU or the govt has offered money towards the $4m it will cost to resurface the AMI, given that the pitch itself was apparently not insured for this event. I could be wrong, the news reporting on Three was even less clear than usual.

At about the same time The Saints were inventing Punk Rock in Brisbane, they certainly weren't part of any movement.

Sonic Youth released a tour video called 1991 The Year Punk Broke and claimed Punk as a movement didn't become mainstream in the States until the early 90s
