    ETA: {redacted} - I now see there's a martinb

Indeed - Mr B. should be informed that Danyl isn't a National Party stooge. I'd have met him at the coffee meeting-slash-black mass if he was.

We are Legion. Do not take Our name in vain, or We will fuck you up.

  • Voting Local 2010,

Hmmm, a 5 hour commercial break. I think we've broken Craig.

Nah... Brown's got to do something stupid before I harsh on him. Otherwise, I might as well go sell my soul to Kiwibog or the Sub-standard, and that's the very definition of sub-prime mortgage.

Employing a little hyperbole, in the time factor methinks.

Not much, Andin. Any halfway competent political spin doctor is going to be fully aware of everyone's deadlines and manipulate them to best advantage. Hold that press conference in the middle of the afternoon - early enough to make the six o'clock news, but not early enough that too much scrutiny will be applied by the print scum before they have to file their copy for tomorrow. Feed stuff into the newsrooms on the weekend, and hope the skeleton staff holding the fort are going to be so desperate for copy they'll run any old tosh.

Also, don't forget the time honoured tradition of the Christmastide Info Dump. It must be pure coincidence reams of papers land on journalists' in-trays just as Parliament (and everyone else) starts winding down for the summer holiday.

And on planet Earth, "stop the presses, I've got my Pullitzer-winning expose in my hands!" only happens in the movies. And even then, your name better be Lois Lane, with all the dish on Superman.

But back on topic: Was I expecting in-depth and sceptical analysis of Phil Goff's conference speech ten minutes after delivery? No. Would I expect Bill English to ever say "golly, we're fucked like a two-bob hooker at a gang-bang" as Cunliffe assured him he's not doing that badly, instead of the other way around? Not in this universe.

But, yes, I wouldn't mind a little sober, reality-based forensics following pretty closely behind. That can't be unreasonable, can it?

Good to see Public Address keeps its Nat apologist around ready to defend anything these clowns claim.

Thanks, Martin. Hang around a little longer, and you might get a clue why that kind of patronising crap doesn't add any value to PAS. Perhaps Kiwibog or the Sub-Standard would be more your cup of tea?

(you could link a Black article criticising National Party ideals if you want to prove me wrong)

I'd have to give you a citation, but like Jane Clifton (who by any sane measure is astoundingly inept at taking pillow-dictation from Der McCullynator) why mess with man-tronising truthiness?

  • Voting Local 2010,

Russell, you might want to sit down but I don't think this was at all fair to Len Brown -- not least the #Heraldfail special, the blaring headline with a tenuous relationship to the already sketchy story.

So, the Manukau City Council made a unanimous decision that was not greeted with universal praise. Well, shag me sideways with a genetically modified turnip...

I will resume my usual tsunami of psychotic Brown-bashing after this commercial break...

Hey, it's world statistics day tomorrow.

    Make a wish!

That the men bogarting all the statistical sexual intercourse I've not had over the years give it back? Oh no... you don't get your wish if you say it out loud. Poo sticks.

Oh Keith! You and your fact checking and analysis!

That's so unfashionable. No-one does that anymore. Not even, as Danyl just pointed out, the opposition.

Well, no... apparently the opposition's big economic policy idea of the week is preventing dirty foreigners from hazing all ur cheez. Or something.

Rod Oram shed more light on the non-crisis of "foreign ownership" in 45 seconds on Nat Radio this morning than the rest of the media combined -- who are fixated on the politics (you'll never lose a poll point with economic xenophobia, apparently) than whether any of the assertions flying around contain less than toxic levels of truthiness.

  • Hard News: Joining the conversation,

And if it's anything to go by, APN doesn't even have, or need, the editorial interference of Rupert Murdoch or Conrad Black to sound like them.

Ah, yes... the infamous editorial interference of Rupert Murdoch. Oddly enough, our host (back when he was wearing his Media Watch hat) did a useful reality check on the idea that Murdoch was directing his titles into a uniform cheer squad for the Iraq War. The editorial boards of then News International owned papers in New Zealand didn't get the memo...

I doubt Joanne Black and her husband would have too much to argue about......if you know what I mean.

I'm reasonably confidence Peter Davies isn't a closet ACT-oid, That's a very long way from insinuating he's married to a mindless sock puppet (or vice versa given his area of academic research).

  • Hard News: Joining the conversation,

@Rich: A much simpler solution would be to stop being a patriarchal twatcock and judge Black's work on its merits (or otherwise) not her marital status or husband's occupation.

    Not really that complicated.
