  • Up Front: The Up Front Guide to Parenting,

My parents, being Scots, believe very strongly in the value of a good education. And so, now, do I. But that's where it ends. The value is in being educated...that's it. Careers are for chokers and cowards.

What I am grateful to the olds for is the fact that even when I failed to qualify for a university education at the age of 18 they manage to set aside judgement. And I am sure they love me to this day :-)

  • Island Life: On the waterfront,

WTF? David, are you being serious, the tone seems somewhat ironic but you seemed to have overlooked the punch line...

"Party Central" looks like the sort of place that will be fill of vomit, shit, glue sniffers and litter for approx. 7 days of the week and drunken louts for 5 hours twice a year.

Just saying, in case you are being serious, it has all the hallmarks of utter crap.

  • Speaker: Remembering the Chartists,

Hey kong, I think you need to understand a bit more about this and my position. Because it isn't unusual.

Yesterday I gave evidence to a select committee, along with lots of other people.

I expect some people there, even lots, disagreed with my points. However, in fronting up a giving my 2cs worth I do not expect to be vilified, denigrated or have my private life pawed over by the politicians to whom I was speaking.

To suggest otherwise as you and others seem to be doing is just not acceptable.

  • Speaker: Remembering the Chartists,

although you're pretty quick with the get-stuffed when it's you doing it

That was the point...Did you miss it?

Just because a politician shows respect to their fellow citizens and electors does plainly not mean that they have to agree with them.

if she can't take that politics is rough.

Hey kong, get stuffed mate. If citizens want to express a reasoned opinion on something that does not suddenly turn them into a politician to be bullied and denigrated by our elected representatives.

You seem to forget, MPs and PMs have been elected to represent *all* of us, not simply those agree with them.

We deserve and should get respect from the PM down (and to be fair, we usually do get that).

  • Speaker: Remembering the Chartists,

I mind MPs wriggling their finances around like worms

I'd like to know a little more about MPs renting properties of each other. Do they manage to save the taxpayer money or is there some kind of double up of payments going on?

    Maybe MSD have the information.

  • Speaker: Remembering the Chartists,

Phil - I am reasonably au fait with the NZ electoral process and systems. It is pretty sound.

Postal voting for local Councils passes the same tests.

It doesn't pass the "secret ballot" test.

I will treasure this post for referencing the Chartists and most especially Object 2.

Don't ever give away your secret ballot, no matter how attractive internet/postal voting looks.

Mikaere: My suggestion is that anyone who thinks that tax cuts are the work of Satan, yet is quite happy to pocket them, is a hypocrite.

Jesus Craig, where did you pick up *that* strawman? At the uncut toe nails of Ms. Rynd?
