  • OnPoint: Astrotobacco,

    teehee you said buttom button.
lets face it, we're lost in Astroturf, and good luck to you if you can find a way to save sensible argument from this marshmallow melodrama.

As billie the vision would say, i learned some swear words, i learned to use them And i stopped thinking that things can be both black and white...

  • Up Front: This is a Photograph of Me,

Pretty sure hero system has machine empathy as a talent in some versions. Would be pretty easy to build as a skill bonus with limitations anyway.
As to what you have, at a guess I'd say a 5pt disadvantage - common, moderate.

I recently thought about moving banks, but ASB apparently refuse to recognise the existence of anyone without a passport, drivers license, or gun license. HANZ card fail. This despite I could happily produce all sorts of other ID, including a marriage certificate to one of their existing customers.

re: briscoes, living across the road helps. I've found it's more important to be within lugging distance of a sallies though, for the other end of the product lifecycle.

  • OnPoint: 2009: "Blithe" (Part 1),

Well it's good to know we can always blame the dead people rather than taking any responsibility ourselves.

As a person who's going to have to live through the effects of the last 20-30 years, thanks a bunch.

So, one that is blue (but not in a cussin' way):

The sky is blue because it is reflecting the sea...

    wiki o doom says
"The sunlit sky appears blue because air scatters short-wavelength light more than longer wavelengths."

  • Hard News: The TVNZ 7 Internet Debate,

Regarding the mandatory isp level filtering in .au; last night I was told by a Telstra user that the same filters would be applied to all TelstraClear innanets whether they were for .au, .nz, .etc (on the basis of preserving corporate HQ direction I presume).

Don't know the truth of it, but it would be interesting in a doom and gloom sort of way to see them do so.

I also am keen to see the copyright question from I/S and questioning the intent for filtering as per previous commenters.

It would be interesting to gauge the feeling of the participants re: whether the internet is officially a utility now, and further if being so it is a right of all NZ'ers to have access.

If it is a right, how do we determine the quality of internet required and the price that is reasonable to ensure that said rights are met?

  • OnPoint: Boarding the funeral barge,

without wanting to sound like a troll, and while being sorely undereducated -

isn't the main difference between the abolitionist era and the current that we allow dissenting political parties a voice? or at the least, that it's much more difficult to dispose of dissenters without great risk to ourselves(germanys interesting take on the war on terror aside).

i didnt think keith was saying they should "fuck off and form a political party" so much as "maybe they should feel free to be public about who they are and where they're coming before they start fucking with everything that it is to live in our country" - which, if i'm not mistaken, is the groups who the efa, with all its flaws, was trying to approach.

personally, i'm a lot more comfortable with a political party saying "hey i think we should take away your ability to do x, and if we(or our nominated proxies) get the vote we'll make it happen"

... than i am with someone convincing everyone around me that "oh my god the world will end if we don't do this thing we barely understand" with severe consequences to them and everyone else afterwards.
(note that my personal opinions and comforts are not necessarily sensible and/or logical. also i second the estimable Emma Harts guess that people don't post here because you're all very smart and it's intimidating as all hell)

  • Hard News: The standing-still sweep,

it hasn't been mentioned, but i think it's worth noting; the earlier confused threads for anti-bypass activists and the people at 128 abel smith - this is because by far the worst crime that happened at 128 was recycling bicycles - the filthy car-haters.
