  • Polity: The overconfidence man,

For me, I expect Key will ditch his underperforming Ministers, copy as many of Labour’s ideas as he can get away with, and go into the election with a new, refreshed team proposing big ideas for New Zealand’s new issues.

I can see the logic in this but looking at the sitting national MPs there seems a lot of bench warmers with few capable ministers in waiting

  • Hard News: Apple Music: Taking a dump on…, in reply to BenWilson,

the AAC format apple uses in iTunes at 256kbps is akin to 360kbps MP3 files so even the keenest ears probably wouldn't be able to tell them apart

  • Hard News: Apple Music: Taking a dump on…, in reply to Russell Brown,

I always just added albums as individual playlists, worked a treat and once listened to enough times just dumping that playlist

I've had a play on apple music or whatever one is meant to call it - the signup and personal selections are a bit tedious and as I did it on my phone which only contains a few tracks I've bought my suggested music preferences were a little on the yeah nah side (no offence Kenny Rodgers). I store very little music on anything than my iPod

I spent the most time mucking about listening to some of the radio playlists, was impressed by the choices, by far the most "me" default selections I've come across, pleased with that. The beast radio station just seemed odd, far too many songs I liked for it to have any appeal to the masses - surely the target?

Connect is just stupid, no doubt the brain child of a social media expert

Longterm I can't see myself using it as I have the spotify spark deal and youtube is my default music finder service

  • Hard News: Friday Music: About Apple Music, in reply to SomeGuy,

a nuclear family of three can use one spotify account on 3 devices for the single price - zero dollars if on one of the spark plans

streaming mobile families need to factor in data charges on each individual account as well as subscription is only one part of the potential equation - leading to... I wonder if the data usage will differ by platform, as in which is the more efficient

  • Hard News: Friday Music: About Apple Music,

I'm sure due to the size of Apple this foray into streaming will be successful, mainly for the fact they have an established client base... I'd wager the not so young more conservative members of the iTunes/apple community will love streaming via apple, for most others I'm not so sure - this isn't a new tech thang or device you gotta have, its a service that many have already decided they like or not... youtube will not be worried and thats the service the next big music thang has to dethrone not spotify

Connect just sounds stupid , was it a leftover idea from iTunes initial launch, cause it sounds old and dated - you'd think a music person who lives in the modern world would have pointed that out... if I want that sort of interaction with an artist I want to do it in their space, not Apples, this is why artists have (or should have) their own websites - don't give up everything to a corporate cause they don't care about you or your fans

Don't expect much on the radio front, radio works best on a local community driven level... curious to see how it works though, especially given the addition of a Rinse FM person into the mix

things apple will never serve ya

  • Hard News: The epitome of reason, in reply to Russell Brown,

I’m basically choosing to be perennially disappointed.

not if you apply your evidence based standards to one or multiple sporting codes and start your discourse from there - then you'll find an audience, one prepared to be engaged.. politics... and the stuff of the world are distractions the general public seem to have little appetite for, they will vote on a vibe cause you know... stuff

I’ve been asking myself the same question – I too am missing your journey Robyn

In the perverse world of the internets - I've yet to listen to the Janine and Mixtape EP but got a chopped and screwed (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chopped_and_screwed) version the day after its US release... https://spinrilla.com/mixtapes/janine-and-the-mixtape-xxep-chopped-and-screwed I like this digital age

  • Hard News: This Anzac Day,

I'm feeling pretty despondent about ANZAC day this year, and the whole century of WW1 "celebrations" - its always been an important day in my year but its just been made into something it shouldn't because it serves others interests in the way it was never meant to be - I'll be doing my reflecting alone away from the pomp and pagentry

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Record Store…,

Having read far too many of the Record Store Day is bad for "x" articles of late its quite heartening and not surprising that the sentiments aren't echoed by the surviving stores in NZ - most of the very real problems of the day don't seem to impact here at all except for those trying to get things pressed (the labels mainly).

If anything the opening of the Flying Out store and others all stepping up with some pretty cool inshore activities is sure to lighten a few wallets - gotta say a String Quartet playing in Showboat would be quite something to witness

The Taite, Record Store Day then music month... good times
