  • Up Front: This is a Photograph of Me,

...a bright yellow Suzuki Carry Van called Wee Jock Silly McPlop

Yay...glad to see i'm not the only one who names my vehicles. We currently have a people mover named Lexi and a van named Kobe.

My favourite was a Morrie Minor named Boston. I'm still toying with the idea of writing a kids book about him just so's i can illustrate it.

  • Southerly: Interview with Rodney Hide,

...For those interested, I found F2 is the better shit.

    indeed...

Growing up in Sth Otago NZ, it was practically tradition for the less fortunate of my generation to pass through the teenage rite of sniffing glue under the wooden railway bridge at night, by the water hole near the primary school.

Hearing the sound of the approaching train getting louder, seeing the head light through the slats followed by the deafening roar as it passed just millimetres over our head while we huffed and puffed and screamed our lungs out was exhilarating stuff, especially when your coherent mind is somewhere else!

  • Hard News: The Exploding Banana Scandal,

The whole journo as celebrity is pathetic. Is it really so hard to just report the news instead of manufacturing it and putting yourselves in the midst of it ?

  • Hard News: Good Newsing,

The company i did the antenna work for is scorch.

Now bearing in mind the gubbmint is about to invest a cool billion, probably to telecom...pffft, to roll out fibre all over the show, not that it'll get down our end anyway but...

My question is, why not invest in wireless technology like Scorch ? and how does the transition form wireless to transcontinental cable work or doesn't it ? Is the data bounced off satellites ? and if so why not buy a few satellites and position them over NZ for nationwide coverage that wil reach all those hard to reach places without digging earthquake prone trenches all over the show ? Is that something Pacific fibre should be looking at instead ?

  • Hard News: Good Newsing,

Can't say as i have ever heard a Pixies tune and those Pt Chev pics from the air are a bit...meh.

Got some good memories of Pasifika though. Even asst stage managed the main stage same year as the failed sweetwaters. We ran 40 minutes late cos the stage manger was a clueless wannabe, it pissed down with rain and we had to cut acts to finish on time with the Urban Pacific Records showcase...AKA Brown for the win !

Sweetwaters was a laugh too. I was co managing the 'aerial artways' stage but thats whole nother story.

Heres a pic i took through a helicopter window of Cable Bay a few months ago. Damn the glarey flash spot! I might try masking it with a fake lense flare. I also tweaked it hardout to look like a painting, dunno if it works, but i like it.

Cable bay, which lies just across the estuary from out my front door, was the landing point of the first trans tasman communication cable. Hence the name. Read some stuff about it here...

Funnily enough, the reason for the chopper ride was to scope out a place on Pepin island (bottom of pic) to put a wireless broadband antenna with a direct line of sight to Mt Campbell (one of those peaks in the distance).

Sucky that I havent gotten onto broadband yet but a new cable sounds well choice for when i do :)
