  • Hard News: Start with your conclusion,

I want some data please, not ever more fanciful String Theory derived wanderings in fantasy land.

interestingly the more populist New Scientist
when put thru the anagramaphone reveals
    its true colours:
Nit Wit Scenes - or - Winces in Test
and their desire to please shows in Nicest in West (we'll leave Stew in Incest as a passing aberration...)

whereas Scientific American converts to the more anthropologically sound I'm Ancient Sacrifice.

    words are holograms
    the truth will out...

  • Hard News: Start with your conclusion,

I'm not sure that this manufactured crisis wasn't part of the plan to then sell off these crown jewels.

Their intention to break the the Arts Centre block into (I believe) 6 separate (leaseable?) titles would seem to indicate that they have a fire sale coming up... - the initial trust deed (before the insertion of the word "develop" throughout) defines the Arts Centre as the entire block... held "...as a cultural centre for use by the people of Christchurch and elsewhere in New Zealand."

The change to an Auckland Law firm must be about the ill will in the establishment regarding Henderson, Carr, Parker.

Franklin told me that they had engaged Simpson Grierson as they wanted "New Zealand's finest legal minds" for their proposed changes... he didn't see any problem in then foisting them unannounced on the tenants - I likened their (S&G) doing humble lease rollovers as extravagantly "using a Rolls Royce to open walnuts" with the ensuing price hike coming out of the chch arts community's pockets. - pretty much against the stated trust aim of "foster, promote, facilitate and encourage the interests of art, culture, education and other related interests, in particular through the provision of accommodation for such activities".
By the time Franklin and the current board are finished I bet we'll have a large food hall and an expensive wedding venue... way to go folks!

To get to the bottom of all these mysterious machiavellian machinations, we obviously
    need those famous amateur detectives:
Nancy Jew and The Jihadi Boys
    they never fail!

  • Hard News: Start with your conclusion,

On paranoid fruitloops and nut bars, you can add Ken Franklin, Director of the Christchurch Arts Centre

I note that the Arts Centre hired an Auckland Private Eye to do their dirty work...
it would be interesting to know just how much money they have sent to the Auckland economy over the past few years - what with their changing to Simpson Grierson as their legal representatives...
I left a studio in the Arts Centre after getting a bill out of the blue for $500 for renewing my lease - which after complaining, Ken Franklin's dept (then Property Manager) explained as being Simpson Grierson's standard commercial lease renewal fee -
maybe on Queen Street - not for a small room in a community Arts Centre - and all that went to SG not the Arts Centre - clever stuff! I beat them down to $200 or thereabouts... and left when the lease was up - I just hated going there by then...
oh yeah my old room is still empty 2 years on...
Franklin is well out of his depth I think and I wonder if there is a way for a public vote for lack of confidence in the Trust Board...

I believe when the Arts Centre sold the Cranmer Centre, which I think they had been gifted to look after the then director put a gagging order on the Board, - real caring community stuff - paranoia rules okay!

    That's a rum lily...

I have a wee collection of Sarracenia also - do you know of any carnivorous plant that is other than a passive trapper?

    every pitcher tells a story
the Venus Flytrap is not really passive (or 'armless) - wham! your fly's undone!

Reduce the staircase, and the lesser lifeforms that use it, to a vast, level plain of ash and dust?

    Like, er, steppes?

Re: Caprica - it does look tasty and stylish in a Brazil kinda way, but I can't believe we'll be dressing like the Untouchables that far in the future
    - it's the ties that get me...
