  • Hard News: Fear, authority and ... Judy Bailey?,

In regard to Judy Bailey's star turn at the Family First conference - the work she is doing for the Brainwave Trust seems to be linked to Simon Rowley's research on the effects of stress on young children.

Is this the stress of wondering where their next dose of "parental correction" is coming from?

  • Southerly: Bob's Top Five,

    It's a vicious cycle.

Oh no! Are vicious cycles another danger we've got protect ourselves from? I always thought of them as pretty benign.

  • Southerly: Bob's Top Five,

Yes, it seems that cycling without a helmet increases your chances of becoming a very healthy corpse.

Has the benefits of having a better supply of more healthy transplant donors been factored into the calculations too?

  • Southerly: Bob's Top Five,

Moving house recently gave me the opportunity to dust off my trusty old Townsend Elite Rock turntable and set it up in my new "study". Three year old daughter was fascinated by it having seen one in a TV cartoon. Tried her out with some vintage vinyl. Favourite song so far is Rankin' Full Stop by the Beat. In fact it is very hard to get past it. As soon as I put on something else I get the request for "Racing Stop Song".

    Yup sure was!
Head over to the Southerly post for the Ados reference.

There's huge sums of corporate sponsorship sloshing around at the moment. Just look at how oversubscribed Eden Park is with any number of companies prepared to chuck in a few million in to make up the shortfall. I'm sure that Statins-R-Us or someone similar would come to the party and pay for Concert FM.
Oh wait, that banging my head on the desk has knocked the lid off the Ados.

    Dear dear Robbie.
Why seek to crush or dismiss something that does you no harm and yet give pleasure to thousands. You seem upset that your taxes are paying for something you don't personally use. As Russell pointed out our taxes pay for many things that we may not like or use. I've never climbed Mt Aspiring but I'm happy for my taxes to pay for the upkeep of the tracks.
Following your logic, would you instead like to have to pay a toll every time you step on a footpath or cross a bridge or go to hospital?
Stop trolling here and start lobbying NZoA for your niche, it may be a better use of your valuable time. :-)

    Just reading some older posts...

It smacks of a fishing expedition, to see just how quickly we can be persuaded to throw somebody overboard from the life-raft they keep telling us we're perilously clinging to. And we're obediently debating it, as always: Toss the grannies! No, the unemployed! Ooh, I know, the harpsichordist... and the group rounds on the hapless musician, gibbering in the corner...
Meanwhile, the life-raft is still firmly attached to the deck of the cruise-ship, and there's carpetbag steak for dinner in the first class lounge tonight, with drinks on the Captain.

    Priceless.
