• Hard News: Acid Man,

Tizard got 40% correct in the quiz. I got more than that.

But the classic quote in the "gotcha" story is from Tizard herself.

When the reporter advised her of her sucess rate, she said: "I don't know the details honey, I just write the policy and ask for the money".

Classic! At least she can rhyme. She should do a rap and form a band called Judith and the Dykes. She may do better than Moana and the Ministers.

Anyways, isnt it great that Shihad and Conchords are charting 1 and 2 this week?

• OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

Enforcing the treaty - as opposed to teh prinicoples - in our courts is problematic. Imagine if there were two different wordings of, say, the Crimes Act, written in different languages - and both had equal standing in law.

Heh,Imagine if one had a reasonable force provision in Section 59 and the other one didn't..

• OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

Shep, perhaps you could explain what would have happened to get maori representation in the 1800s without specific Maori seats after the Treaty was signed...

• OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

And what has all this got to do with the Maor seats? The Maori seats have NOTHING to do with the Treaty. Maori seats are not a treaty right. Maori seats would still have happend had their never been a treaty.

Keith you wrote:

Maori Party gets all 7 Maori seats, with 3% of the party vote.[snip] the Maori Party could reverse a 6-seat gap with 3% of party votes.

I thought any gap would be reversed with the electoral vote, not the party vote. Perhaps you meant that the Maori party would reduce the gap *as* it gets 3% - not *because* it gets 3%.

• Hard News: Not so much ironic as outrageous,

It's challenging, and sometimes amazing. But I do know that if an already disturbed 13 year-old loses the plot, the correct response is not to beat him with a riding crop.

So what *is* the correct response?

• Hard News: Herself's Turn,

Does anybody know what happens to people who are 17 and a half and finished high school?

They leave school and get further education, a job, or a benefit.

The more sensible end of the smacking brigade might now see fit to STFU until we hear evidence in court.
Exactly. Would you put me in teh sensible end Russell? Or not in that brigade at all...

Hey that was really well written, RB, Much better than the fill in crap you get in the dailies at this time of the year from former reporters now turned communications pros.

• Hard News: Denial,

I'm still not 100% comfortable with elements of the EFB myself. But John Boscawen's astroturf activities -- phone-spamming 80,000 people in Labour electorates included -- had the perverse effect of making me swing more behind it. He just comes across as yet another man with lots of money and a raging sense of entitlement, and that gives me the creeps.

So Russell, if you strongly support a position on policy or legislation and a supporter of the positin you hold spams by emai or phone, whould that autopmatically mean you change sides? Thats pretty unprincipled.
