  • Field Theory: Real Fans, in reply to Dominic Kelly,

To echo Dom - I also was a long-time season pass holder for the Hurricanes and Wellington Lions, both through Athletic Park then Westpac Stadium. But then, around 2010, it all just got too much.

While seeing our teams playing poorly wasn't particularly new, having to do so at great cost in a bitterly cold concrete stadium with ridiculously poor choices for food and drink, attempts at half-time entertainment that at best were half-hearted (but more accurately, simply piss-poor) and security who embodied all the worst aspects of trumped up little pricks in uniform.

We started to leave at half-time to watch the rest of the game in comfort at a nearby bar; with good food and drink to hand.

Then we just stopped going along at all.

  • Speaker: In Tribute: Peter Gutteridge…,

Through the highs (hearing "Hang On" for the first time on "In Love With These Times", the release of 'Pure') to the lows (seeing Gutteridge slumped, mumbling, incoherent against his electric piano at a gig on the ADM tour) one thing never changed - my love of almost all of the music he contributed to throughout his life.

Had to leave work when I heard the news yesterday. Sat down by the water, thought of the music, my encounters with the man both from the audience and in person, and shed a tear.

    Will be missed.

...I haven't seen "privacy" on here, did I miss it?

Because privacy's been an important word for 2013; the next step of the discussion from last year's starting point of "secrecy" and "privacy breaches."

...It is so refreshing to see a public apology that is actually, you know, apologetic. That acknowledges the reasons that apologies were needed. With no "we apologise for any offence caused"...

  • Speaker: Gender quotas (and helping…,

I agree with the policy, but also agree that the example is self-serving and will play into Paddy Gower's hands by starting at 40% and increasing from there.

How about the figures bases on the current caucus, then a PV of 36% in 2014, then 38% in 2017. What would that show?

It's good to see Labour aiming for 40%,but as the table shows that's a 12% increase over 2011. That seems far fetched, even if you're not Patrick Gower.

Or, to put it another way, it's quite good to see that the law won't allow a runner-up to take office by virtue of assassination (character or otherwise), without a fresh election.
