Regardless, Australian proposals to 'filter' the big bad foreign interweb have the air of Don Quioxte about them; quaint and entirely unworkable to my supremely un-techie like mind. What on earth is the point then?
My understanding is it is a 'won't someone think of the children?' moral panic that various groups and the media won't let anyone challenge by the old saw of accusing them of being paediatricians. By which means nobody has, quite, had the balls to put a stop to it yet. Everyone without a hair trigger moral panic button knows it is a complete nonsense, but that is no help it seems.

Perhaps you don't know, but here in the UK during a paedophile scare a couple of years ago a woman paediatrician in the Welsh borders had to leave her home after a group of ignorant idiots misinterpreted the word. My use of paediatrician then was a subtle reference to that, being a bit sarcastic, it was no typo.

Probably deliberate - that's a standard misspelling (to get around keyword filters for the string 'porn', funnily enough). Alternate variant is the l33t variant, 'pr0n'.

And on the topic of thinking of the children, a top OECD expert on social policy has attacked NZ's child poverty levels - our rate of children living in poverty is 15%, against an OECD average of 12% - and said that there needs to be a coordinated review of the tax and welfare systems. Coupled with that she dared to suggest that, like the countries that lead the OECD with low levels of child poverty, NZ should bring back a universal child benefit.
Can't see the current lot liking that particular suggested medicine, especially while Pull-ya Benefit is in charge, but it's worth considering. Of course we can't afford to do things like that and cut taxes, so I guess children living in poverty will have to rely on the trickle-down of charitable donations from the well-to-do to food banks and other such instruments of private welfare. Never mind that poverty in childhood is conclusively linked to poor academic performance, poor health, and lower lifetime income potential. Tying people into inter-generational benefit dependence indeed.
Still, I suppose that tomorrow's minimum-wage cleaners for the houses of Shon Key's mates do have to come from somewhere. -

This week's Media7 takes two themes.
I've been meaning to ask this for a while ... why does Media7 almost always start early? For the last couple of months, my FreeVo (which starts recording 2-3 minutes before the appointed time) has missed the beginning. Pretty much every week for the last couple of months (except, for some reason, your hour-long one, which may have been early, but wasn't so early that I missed the start).

Well, earlier than the EPG used by both Sky and Freeview PVRs, yes. And I don't know why.
It has been noted. We get around it by recording the news bulletin beforehand.
I'll see if there's a better answer to be had.
