Macklemore is coming!
I’m excited.

The Pretty Things?
Maybe I should reconsider Elvis C (especially if he plays tracks from Should I Be Cruel?) but just the thought of mingling with a bunch of chardonnay-swilling yahoos! -

Not enough of these acts and bands make to the S Island unfortunately. In days of old, Christchurch would get 'spillover' from the BDO but that rarely happens now. We lack permanent sizeable venues, the quakes saw to that.
Wouldn't it be great though to have a mini-Laneways in Christchurch (in 2014), say, in the upcoming Tannery development in Woolston? It has a great backdrop with the Port Hills close behind and atmosphere – sometimes physically enhanced by the nearby industrial area! The Brewery Pub sits out front now, The old Smith’s second hand bookshop from Manchester St (a place I imagine Russell spent many hours trawling through on his visits south!) is one of the first batch of new tenants and I believe many other boutique and quirky businesses whose businesses were badly disrupted by the quakes will also relocate here.
This development could be in any case the new style of retail in Christchurch as it rebuilds. And a challenge of sorts to the ‘accepted order’ of Westfield-type malls. Can’t wait for it – set to open in February.

Great idea. The Tannery is looking interesting with some good shops planned. I kkind of hope they do a vege and flower market; one of those messy, noisy, "vibrant" (That word is getting overused) Berwick St Soho numbers. The "farmers" markets are too sanitised for me.

Tannery Row....
Ya do realise that there is a mini sample of the Tannery Emporium running already (7 days a week) - aka The First Few ShopsThe “boutique” stores Redfish Bluefish, Toi Toi Design Store, Where The Fox Lives, Flock Design Boutique, Deadset and Smith’s Bookshop have temporarily set up shop in a car park while they await for The Tannery shopping arcade to open early next year.
...and they also have a site planned for music fans - Al Park will be the host at The Park which is sounding like a venue to look forward to....
The shifting of the snooty Farmers Market at Lyttelton (to London St), is impacting the usual saturday market on the green above the school on Oxford St. But they are doing things to make it a destination too - live local music, and now I guess they'll be able to have food and coffe there at last. It was a little slow today, but has a good community feel and deserves to prosper - support em folks, break that Chchch mould and dare to walk a half block or less...

I quite like this song: a little reminiscent of The Pixies with a touch of Modest Mouse and a sprinkle of Puff the Magic Dragon...

Well, yeah. But no matter the venue there's always going to be some douche to spoil your fun. The dudes talking loudly over the band about their weekend plans at the Kings Arms are always really annoying too. I did not come here to listen to you! I came here to listen to the band! Shut up!

Is it what. (You had me at that.)

Not enough hours, really. I'm stoked to hear it has a new home.

Yeah, I did realise about the first six and had a look around there last evening. They're restricted to what looks a container each just now - but great things start small. And after the sad demise of Al's Bar, I am looking forward to The Park.

To much boring rugby, hopeless cricketers, & past it & already seen bands, all charging more than their worth,
sand & sea, have more appeal, if weather allows,
or, plane trips, offer better value ! -

They may well be past it, but I've never seen Morrissey, Devo, the Stone Roses, Ringo, or Weezer, so I'd rather see them on a cash-in tour than not at all. I'm still immensely happy that Black Francis needed to feed his 945 children, so the Pixies played here three times in 2010.
I almost bought tickets to Kendrick Lamar and then got all wishy-washy about it and then he sold out, so I suppose that one's out. But I also forgot Fred Wesley. I'm still tossing that one up. Just how funky IS he? Hrm.

The GFC has not been kind to old rockers’ pension funds, hence a few summer gigs in a pleasant holiday destination to pay for a break. Each on their own merits, and the tours mean a few bucket list entries are ticked.
-
I'll just settle for a Stone Roses ticket and be happy with my lot. Very happy indeed.
-
Pete,
In for Sabbath and Neil Young - more as a bucket list thing than any other reason
Saw a different Sabbath when they toured with Dio - a real loss that he's gone.
Cognitive dissonance isn't a problem, the Ozzy years and the Dio years play like different bands pretty much.
Missed out on Grimes but got Dirty Projectors next yearBlaze Bailey and Paul diAnno doing Iron Maiden tracks this Friday - best get pissed for that one
