  • nzlemming,

Thanks for this. My bubble of 1.3 (my cat) is much the same and in a small town where I don't really have anyone to ask anyway. That said, apart from the angst which has been real, my daily life hasn't changed that much as I generally stay at home migrating between the bed and the sofa. Kia kaha, Michelle.

  • Mark Graham,

Thanks for writing this - it’s not easy to share something so personal, I know.

A couple of immunocompromised people in this bubble so very happy with the firm leadership of Jacinda, Ashley, Grant and all. Also lucky to have a skilled shopper. A month ago we were seriously worried about people we knew catching Covid, a threat which has now receded somewhat (thankfully).

Thanks again for writing this, Chelle. Must have taken a lot of energy to produce such an authentic reflection on this moment in place and time.

  • Daniel Noreally,

A very real perspective that I wish we had been hearing more of.
Thanks for writing this so clearly.

Thanks again, Hilary. Yes. I must say the terror I felt is becoming much less with our strategy appearing to be working so well, so far. Look after yourselves.

  • Shep Cheyenne,

    Thank you Michelle,
I recently lost my Mum to cancer at New Year's and am glad it didn't happen at this time. It's a scary time with a few other family with compromised health.
I'm on Billy Bragg's Facebook page. He's called those open economy crew "Covid Collaborators".
    All the best.

  • WaterDragon,

This piece seems to me to be a visit into the spaces in another human's life- the dark, painful, grim or unpleasant-memories spaces that we often don't visit. And I am abashed by my ability to say little meaningful beyond thank you. But there we are. Your truth speaks loud.

  • Lilith __,

Thanks so much for this, Chelle. I live with a severe chronic illness and my life may not seem meaningful in economic terms, but it's meaningful to me. Hoping for the best, for all of us. xxxx

Thanks for reading. Yes, it’s been a very confronting experience for a lot of us in different ways, I think. I guess we’re all just trying to find a way through. I hope you’re doing ok.

  • Kathy Fryer,

Dear Chelle from a panic attack point of view your article is a relief to read that you are making it through after everything that you've survived. Just to say I went into a bubble early, for the safety of my partner. Fortunately Aucklanders also started taking the risk of c19 seriously. Traffic in the morning and afternoon decreased enormously as workers and students stayed home even before level 2 was announced. I sincerely believe that the NZ situation would be much worse if this had not happened.

I couldn’t agree more and it’s something I try to remind myself and others of when we see people doing silly things. People are imperfect but it’s the collective response that matters and we are doing a good job. Thank you for reading.

  • Gillian Marie,

Thank you Michelle, for sharing your vulnerability in such a powerful and articulate way. LIke you I live alone. I am in the older vulnerable age group. When there was talk of the older population having to stay in our homes for another six months while the rest of the country opened up again I knew that I just could not do it. I had a huge panic attack at the thought of looking at the same four walls in my small space. I knew that I would rather risk getting the virus than staying home and my mental, physical and spiritual bodies deteriorating. Fortunately that policy changed. I can drive to the sea and see the horizon, breathe in salty sea air. Breathe.
