Hard News by Russell Brown

The economic revue comes to Christchurch

I've sometimes struggled for a description of The Voyage of a Lifetime, but it came to me today: it's an economic revue. An accessible, entertaining and bloody serious account of New Zealand's economic position and possible future.

As the host of proceedings I've heard the reality-based economic analyses of the speakers three times now and each time I've been galvanised. So naturally, I'm keen as mustard to get down to Christchurch and run the whole show again on Sunday March 3.

The lineup of speakers at Voyage of a Lifetime Christchurch is Rick Boven, Bernard Hickey, John Walley and Selwyn Pellett -- and Bronwyn Hayward of the University of Canterbury joins the event for the first time. As ever, Michele A'Court will do the warming up.

A key feature of the event is always that people get to socialise and, if they wish, talk to the speakers after the show. The details are:

The Voyage of a Lifetime

Court Theatre,

Bernard Street,

1.30pm (doors 1pm), Sunday March 3

Tickets are free, but you need to register here.

Public Address readers are warmly invited to come along. And yes, I know, I've been promising an Orcon Great Blend in Christchurch ever since that damned earthquake put paid to plans. It looked like we'd be able to do it this summer, but our generous sponsor now won't be in a position to get behind the event until mid-year.

That doesn't mean we can't just get together, and in addition to the Voyage event, I'm looking to organise a casual get-together late on the Saturday afternoon. I'll keep you posted about that.
