Oh, I didn’t realise that.
Yes, it was all seated – which might explain the relative quiet for Julia
Yeah, there were a few talkers on Friday. Seating an audience does seem to have a quieting effect.

was the Marlon gig seated downstairs on Saturday? I went on Friday and it was standing only

I went to see Lawrence Arabia at the Cabana in Napier last night. I was full of flu and nearly didn't go but glad I did. It's a bumbling, charming and funny show. Some cool new songs too. Unfortunately my flu seemed to enjoy it, too. It awoke this morning with a spring in its step and renewed vigor.

Really enjoyed the Saints doco. Thanks

I watched the Phoenix on the weekend too, and the quality on display there has improved markedly over the seasons. Then I watched some of the Blues game and couldn't stay awake through the endless scrum resets. They really need to address that part of the game before Sky start inserting ad breaks over them.

Hard News: Friday Music: Bring Back Boxes, in reply to
That's true, Ian did a lot of work to get the place sounding very good but there's been upgrades since as well and some good in-house sound guys - the latest to move to the area is Ron Kessels, a young Dutch bloke who flicks back to Europe to do sound/monitors for Sigur Ros, Radiohead etc. He's made some pretty average bands sound very good at the Cabana.

Well if you're in Napier and there's something good on, The Cabana is a pretty good box venue. It also has a good PA and pretty lights. It does sometimes lack an audience though. I'm sure it'll be packed for your show next month Sam.
It would be a really good venue in Auckland or Wellington, and for the bands the load in/out is easy

thanks Russell.
Yes, 44 comments since 2007 - lets just say I read more than I write here.

I used to love the Silver scrolls nights but I don't get invited anymore, despite being a finalist twice. I don't remember doing anything to get me banned but the alcohol was free and i was young. I do remember it being a fun night though and i watched some of it via the Herald site last night.
Anyway, I'm still making music and there's a couple of preview tracks from the Golden Curtain album here if anyone's interested
