maybe we need to teach it in schools
I believe that many schools already are: http://www.rootsofempathy.org/en/new-zealand.html

Many, many years ago I had a huge old feijoa tree. A work colleague was a keen wine maker so he came over and grabbed a heap of them. He gifted me a half bottle of the result and I accepted with some trepidation. I eventually tried it one night with some Chinese takeaways and it was delicious. Wished he had given me more.

My first curry was Mum's Beef and pineapple version (much nice than it sounds, even today although YMMV). Went to a few of the local Shore places when I was older but after eating at work mate's house (his lovely mum cooked everything from scratch ), nothing at a restaurant seemed as good. Probably not going to the right places :)
These days, curry is a firm favourite in our house. The kids got hooked on Masterchef (Aussie) several years ago (via my mother) and I haven't been able to get away with sausages and veges for them for dinner ever since. Mum also bought them both a Junior Masterchef (Aussie) recipe book on a visit to Oz and the Goan Fish Curry recipe in one of them is now a very firm favourite (with homemade naan bread - Simon Holst BBQ recipe). I doubt it is very authentic but it is pretty tasty. Maybe the Butter Chicken of fish curries.

I am a little confused by Graeme's original post. Why is it a bad thing if I, as a humble housewife, decide not shop somewhere and discourage others from doing so because their advertising is funding speech I dislike? It is one of the few powers I have as said humble housewife. Surely someone who approves of the speech has an equal freedom to target their spending to that business and ask like-minded people to do the same? Just because a boycott is called, does not mean that it will succeed. Sometimes, I have noticed it has the opposite effect from that intended.
Swan - editorial independence is a fine thing but, given that media organisations are corporates funded by shareholders and advertisers, it is probably as mythical as unicorns.

Hubby and I commented as we left that it was a shame she didn't have a real band (although the guy on the drums was great). It meant that there was no real opportunity to rev the crowd up during Royals. But no doubt about it, she is an impressive young lady. I was watching her face on the (amazingly clear) big screens and it is like she becomes a different person when she sings. It was fascinating to watch. Looking forward to hearing her album.

a) hates being called “Mrs” and b) dislikes being called “Miss” or “Ms”.
That is pretty much the only downside I have found for keeping my name. Well that and enduring the general incredulity that I didn't change my rather amusing (to some) surname when I had the chance. My view - yes, my name is embarrassing but it is too much part of me to change. My kids got their father's name though (for which they are very, very grateful).
