thank you Emma, great post. Often when we don't know what to say it's because saying things is not what is most important, it's being with.

My first computer was a Mac, and that's 20 years ago. My older brother brought it home for me and mum. Macs probably inspired me to become a designer, and revolutionized graphic design. They opened up a new and wonderous world of digital typography and have been the tool of the trade ever since. My husband crossed platforms when he met me . Macs allowed me to be geeky without having to compromise on style. Macs gave me jobs. So yes, I feel it's my right to wax lyrical about what Steve Jobs did for my life mainly because he put a whole lot of creative power in my hands and that of my generation.
I grin and think of the time when I was asked by parents friends "why would you still be buying macs" like it was a dying breed in the 90s. If I was a sheep I certainly wasn't displaying sheepish behaviour then because all the other sheep were running the other way. I consider it personal vindication that they now all use iPhones. Probably shouldn't, just do anyway. Thanks for that too, Steve. -
Thank goodness you're back. Got a new gravatar to celebrate, just to see myself along all this awesome type.

It's nice to be part of an audience where you're not obliged to politely applaud, where you can yell and throw things (two of my favourite pastimes). It's a powerful experience when the audience can transform a lame melodrama into a hilarious comedy.
I'm all for movie audiences being raucous. The first time I experienced anything like it was watching Bad Taste in Vienna, dubbed over in Austrian German. It was the most hilarious experience and the level of audience involvement blew my stodgy stereotype of Austrians out of the water.
Not on the spoonthrowing level, but still liberating was watching Sex in the City this year. I know. But exactly because of it being rather terrible, the entirely female audience probably felt fine about not holding back on loud interjections. Less hipster. More tipsy suburban mum. But no applauding politely for sure.
Audience emancipation. awesome. -
But then I'm not under guarantee anymore either.
Now Gio don't go taking that the wrong way. I am under some sort of guarantee.

You must tell us how you upgrade your man.
hee. I think they've stopped bringing out upgrades for my particular model. So I just live with it. But then I'm not under guarantee anymore either.

I just always WAIT and SEE. When both husband and brother enthusiastically told me there was such a thing as OS 4 for Iphone i said yeah but my Iphone is 3G and at that stage it was already slow as f&&^@#$&k AND i've used macs for 20 years too so I'm not going anywhere near THAT, because I know what THAT was made for. it's like a relationship Damian, not a cult, you get to know your man and you know how he 'operates', so you hang back and don't stress yourself out, until the upgrade for the upgrade has fixed the problems with the upgrade. I know that makes me sound like another sucker. at least i'm a cool sucker.

I like Melbourne's Logo. It immediately reminds me of the NGV at Federation square, and it has some soul to it. The reaction in the Age is just too predictable. Some interest in the creative process, an interview here or there with people actually involved or even knowlegdeable about design, would maybe give people the opportunity to feel proud of the new identity. The usual yadda yadda that it actually has a cost (wouldn't be able to buy much of a house in Melbourne for 240 000, would you??) is tiresome.
And as you pointed out Evan it's not going to be costing 10K, the professional who spruces it up is going to charge a whole lot more than that.
