  • The end of the road West,

I'm picking Pascalle and Wayne to run off together tonight, though I'm not sure I'm happy.

    1...

I think Van and his girl will get married tonight.

    2 for 2!

Felt very much like a wrap up show - characters getting tidied up between the ad breaks. Would have liked a two hour special.

  • The end of the road West,

I thought the Bailey/Jethro/Van threesome thing was double ewww and double ick.

That was clearly the intent of the scene though - to show the difference between Van and Jethro.

I think Van and his girl will get married tonight.

  • The end of the road West,

I would really like to see Jethro take a fall tonight.

That would cause a cheer in my household.

It's only when I see Anthony Starr elsewhere (I saw a trailer for the Waterfall movie the other day) that I'm reminded how well done the Jethro/Van thing is on OF. I never think of them as the same actor, they're so different. We love Van and hate Jethro, as we're supposed to. A credit to the writers and performer.

  • The end of the road West,

It's my theory and I'm not entirely convinced by it, but Loretta is the character who changes over the six series.

I get the impression that Cheryl only changed in season 1, and not really since.

I keep expecting Van to be the one that changes, but it never quite happens.

I'm picking Pascalle and Wayne to run off together tonight, though I'm not sure I'm happy.

And I can't see how it can finish tonight - how can that all be wrapped up in one show?

  • Hard News: New Old Left?,

Would it not be possible to allow a form of STV (just not voter driven), the reallocation happening according to a pre-election list provided by the party?

I wouldn't want the parties reallocating my party vote.

But having your MMP vote reallocated via a list (sorta like STV, but without the surplus vote reallocation) would be interesting. I could then vote for a real left-wing party and put the greens second (and hold my nose and put labour third I guess).

  • Hard News: Unreasonable people vote,

But the stock market is a bit different than the economy, and Nikkei pretty different than the US.

I'm not saying it will happen automatically. Incompetence caused the current situation, so incompetence can sure keep it going. But half-decent economic management will eventually see the US economy return to some growth as companies who had to overhack to survive start to re-hire (that's just happened in the last quarter), and weaker companies all die off (except those bits that the government thought were too big to fail) freeing up market space for others.

You'd need around 9000 votes or so to get a seat (factually, given recent turnouts).

I've looked at the figures and don't understand why the system does this.

At about 2.4 million people voting, 20,000 votes should get you a list seat, assuming most votes 'count'.

Is this a feature of of sainte-lague, that smaller parties can get in at about 0.5% of the vote? Should take more like 0.8 shouldn't it?

  • Hard News: Unreasonable people vote,

I actually think it's going to take much, much longer. It might not even happen at all. I don't think they can spend their way out of this recession.

I think the stimulus stops the bleeding.

Time heals the actual recession - it's a boom and bust system, eventually it works it's way out of bust if you do a half-decent job of managing it.

I'm not saying fantastic growth, just that the economy will look significantly better in comparison to when he took over. Enough to put it up at the top of your record when you run again.
